Guys-

Doing a little project while I have some down time. My driver's fender is touching the door at the bottom. The gap is fine at the top of the fender and the door closes properly. What needs to be adjusted to open up the gap at the bottom?

Thanks

Before you adjust the door it’d be nice to know why it’s out of adjustment. Have you checked the door bushings to see if they’re worn? Grab the bottom of the door at the end and lift up on it. If you feel any play then replace the bushings.

There's no play in the door bushings. No drop when opening door and when I pull on the bottom it immediately begins to move the body.

How do I slide the door back? Will I then have to make adjustments to the latch?

What is the door gap like at the back?

If it is mostly consistent, then it will probably be easier to pull the bottom of the fender forward. It may be possible that you will get enough movement without affecting the rest of the fender because it could flex just enough.

Yes, if the gap at the back is ok then it’s the fender that moved. How’s the body mount at the radiator support? Is the bolt for it loose?

The door gap at the back is fairly large but consistent. I feel like I've moved it as much as possible by loosing the hinge bolts and trying to slide it. I tried using a jack and a 2x to apply pressure but still didn't get very much.

I guess I should clarify, this isn't something that has just changed with the truck. The door and fender just *barely* touch - not even enough to remove paint. I'm about to LINE-X the rockers and need about an 1/8 clearance, so they'll definitely contact after that. Body mount at radiator support is solid and bolt is tight.

Excuse my ignorance, but how exactly do I pull the bottom of the fender forward?

doors are set to fixed points.. your rockers and qrter.. fender to door is set last... to move the door back, properly, the fender REALLY needs to be off... it's the hinge to post adjustment, stoopid hard with the fender on...

following....i have the same issue. my driver door basically touches my fender all the way up, and the door2quarter gap is about 1/2 inch all the way up.

You can loosen the bottom bolt in the fender which is on the back side.
Get under the truck behind the front tire. Look up into the back of the fender. If there is some adjustment available in that hole then you should be able to loosen the bolt and use a prybar somehow, or a piece of wood to pry it ahead slightly. Then retighten the bolt. This will only work if there is room in the bolt hole, which you won't know without trying to move it, or pulling the bolt completely out. And if it doesn't have pressure pushing backwards there already.
There may be a shim on that bolt as well, so watch for it to keep it in there.

I don't even want to think about it....doing gaps was the most difficult task I have ever attempted...seems like I remember it taking me 30 days and it was still a compromise.

Looks like I'm in for some fun. There's no room to slide the bottom bolt.

I was really wasn't planning on all of this. I see this spiraling out of control quickly

This all started because my paint on the hood and roof were peeling badly. Seems the Maaco employees forgot to apply primer or prep at all (previous owner had it painted). The rest of the truck is fine, but the hood was bare under the paint, no primer or previous paint at all. I figured what the hell, let's spray the rockers while I'm at it...

Well I can tell you that lots of times there have been factory parts that need work to make them fit well. I have heard lots of stories from body guys over the years.
My son's '72 need the holes for the front fender worked on so that it would move down. My Dad bought that truck new, and that fender got replaced in 1974. I would bet that it was a GM part.

So maybe a little work on that lower hole would give you the necessary amount?
