What have you guys come up with to adjust the door hindges with out taking off the fender? I thought there were some sort of s wrenches that you go do this with?

Also wondering do you go between the door edge and fender edge or do you go through the door jab on the inside when the door is swung open?

:haha: :haha: :haha: wait.... :haha: :haha: :haha:

I thought I had warned you guys enough about f*cking with the hinge to cowl bolts with a fender on...

your best bet isn't actually wrenches, it's 1/4 drive socket setup's of "just" the right length..... you go from inside with the door open somewhat...

don't forget one of the uppers comes thru from inside, up under the dash..

do yourself a favor and pull the fender, it's easy peezy to just line it up to the qrter/rocker... and it'll actually take 1/2 the time and knuckle skin..

I will take your advice and look at taking the fender off. I have not ever taken one off so I will have to investigate...

thanks

what was the actual alignment issue you where trying to correct?

driver side door is to low, towards the rear, body line does not lineup, upper right window edge of door rubs on door jam when closed, strike pin not aligning correctly, fender /door gap bigger at the top and tighter as you go down. it needs to kind of rotate counter clock wise if you will....

is the hinge tight? there's no reason that dimension should change, UNLESS the bushings are sloppy...

^^ X2. Doors don't usually come out of alignment magically. With the door open try lifting it from the bottom corner and see how much play there is. Bet it's the hinge pin bushings.

I was going for the "subtly leading him to the answer" path... ;)

no play, truck was repainted before I owned it. I have recently taken possession of the truck and I am working on all the bugs left behind. It would appear that they did not hang it correct either when they painted it or maybe when they took them off and changed the electrical/doors to the new doors with electric mirrors...

ah, gotcha....

it can be VERY challenging to adjust them with fenders on... if you really need to do it that way.. something to keep in mind is the best way to make adjustments, even on the doorside is to leave one bolt pretty tight, than you can "pivot" the door on that one bolt...

for the hr it'll take to pull the fender, than another to put on, you'll have the door adjusted in 15 minutes.. whereas if the fender is on, you can spend a 1/2 day cursing and dropping tools down into fender abyss..

multiple broken up, short pieces of wooden paint mixing sticks work great for setting/maintaining gaps..
