Door Lock Striker

There is a captured nut in there. Same thing that they use for all the topper bolts. if truck is rusty or someone else has screwed it up, can be a bear to fix I hear.

dyeager535 is right. I replaced the striker on the driver's door of my 1990 Burb a few years ago. The nut fell down, down, down, in the cavity of the door pillar. I was somehow able to fish it out with a magnet or wire, but it was not fun. I've since replaced the other three strikers. What I did was keep a strong, but small, magnet right near the large washer on the striker so that the nut wouldn't fall. Doing this I was able to make certain I didn't lose another nut down the pillar. FWIW, the other three nuts were all still captured.

As someone else mentioned, it is a captured nut and yes it is a pain in the butt to replace. When I pulled mine I ended up welding a new piece of sheet metal in with a nut welded to the back. Of course, I needed a new piece of steel anyway since the old one was cracked out pretty badly.

Yeah, the striker bolt nuts are a peice of thick reqtangular metal, tapped with threads for the striker bolt, that is retained by either spot welds, or a few peices of metal welded and folded around it...its rare for one to break loose from the door jamb, but it does happen occasionally..if you fear it will drop out of place when you remove the striker bolt, you could drill a hole near the bolt and put a pop rivet in it before you unscrew the striker bolt, to hold it in place--maybe more than one..you will probably have to remove them to allow adjustment of the bolt after the new bolt is installed though...

wow must be going around!

Hilarious that you guys mention this, After my wife took the Sub I noticed the striker pin was loose, so I turned it and wouldn't you know something went tumbling in to the pillar......In the parking lot of a supermarket, on the driver's side. Jaw hit the floor! i was holding the only thing that closed the door! luckily this striker had 4 washers on the outside end of it, one of which was threaded!!!! i just pulled the molding off the metal of the pillar and put the threaded washer behind and screwed the striker back on temporarily, until i can fish the other one out of the bowels of my suburban.

All of the plates on my Suburban were not captured. I had to take the "B" pillar molding off to gain access to the bolt plate.

My '74 sixpack (err, crewcab) is like that in the front. Had to take the molding off, access hole right behind the striker, and at the base in case you dropped it =))

The rear I think is open, but my truck may be missing molding back there.
