Drivers side door, there is a little knob on the inside of the door frame that the door latches onto....that damn knob rattles loose and moves on me all the time, I try to hand tighten it, or use a funky allen wrench to tighten it, but it doesnt seem to crank down securely for long....

What the heck can I do to get it to fix in one position, so my door doesnt clatter half shut going down the road?

Thanks

Pipe wrench...then file off the burrs once it's tightened.

i should mention to be somewhat careful with the striker. The nut behind it is 'caged' and it's quite common that it's become rusty enough to spin within the cage, or if you loosen it too much the nut falls out of the cage. Either is ungood.

I have had good luck snugging the striker up slightly when I know the location is somewhat close. Then using a bit of grease or paint on the striker seeing where contact is made. Adjust up or down with a small hammer. Depth I set by feel. The door should close easily, but not feel loose when fully latched. Same deal...small tap with a hammer to set that depth.

At this point I take a sharpie marker and outline the striker, grab my pipe wrench and tighten it up better. The sharpie line is reference to make sure the striker hasn't moved from where everything was good while I'm tightening it.

There should be nylon rollers on the strikers too...not sure if you still have yours or if they wore off.

All good info above but nobody has covered your sagging door issue mentioned in the subject.

One thing to keep in mind is that the striker is designed to hold the door closed not support the weight of the door. If your hinge bushings are worn the striker will be supporting the weight of the door and will most likely loosen up as driving down the road will hammer the door down on the pin.

Make sure that when you close the door it does not shift up once it hits the striker. If it moves up then a hinge rebuild is in order to fix the issue once and for all.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

We fixed it today. There was access to the nut so we pulled it off. I have Grade 8 7/16 Ny-lok nuts and we used a 7/16 grade 8 split lock washer, re-installed it let it find the sweet spot by closing the door with it snug, in about the right location, then tightened it up, DONE. Door closes like a charm, no rattle.
