I need manual dors instead of electric. How involved is it to install a hand crank & eliminate the motor ect.? Will I need to replace all of the guts?

ya need manual regulators and door panels... super simple...

Ok, here we go. I wrote this up before, but not sure what thread it was in.
-remove door panel
-lower window (you will need to be able to lower and raise the window to make it easy)
-(best way) take the screws out for yor vent on the top of the door, the one that clamps the door, and the lower 1/4" bolts.
-take the two bolts out that retain the rear track, let it drop, gives you more room to play.
-if you can, remove your vent window(I've done it without, but more of a pain.
-I then remove the 4 bolts hold the regulator on.
-get the wheels out of the window track, by moving the window and the regulator. there is a spot in the center of the track to do so, and u can pop them out the end.
-either remove the window, or let your drunk friend hold it up, if you left the vent in, best to have the drunk friend, or b!tchen girlfriend hold it up.

put the regulator in the all the way down position and sneek it out of the door.

-install new in reverse order

if you need any pics, i have all the stuff ripped out of doors.

This must be done in the cold, during a snow storm, and at night with only a mini-mag light. Well it seems thats the only times I ever did it. LOL

i was gonna say PM Mike{supreme70} but i forgot you did it a few times yourself Trevor.:haha::haha:drunk friend.:haha::haha::haha:plus when Mike helps me when i get my manual stuff,it will prolly be 10 degrees out.:D

The only time you HAVE to work on windows, is rain, snow, cold or dark. If you have all 4, you will run into problems so it takes 3 times the time.

You just need to swap the regulator. if you look in lmc you can see the pics of them. your crank will come out the power window switch hole. if you wanted to, or cared, you could swap door panels to make it look good.

While this seems easy enuff with the doors. what about the rear tailgate window. Same process? anyone ever convert from power to manual?

Just get the rear handle, regulator and cable, then swap them out.

Someone told me that you can just get the handle, and put the drive cable from the old motor to the manual handle. But I never tried it.

Ok, back up, I got the manual regulators, but am worried by reading in the haynes manual and a few posts on here about the regulator being spring loaded? Does this only apply when unbolting the motor from the regulator itself? I have no problem removing the regulator/motor as an assembly and throwing them away, but don't want to end up breaking the door glass if the spring releases unexpectedly :(

EDIT: also the driver's side is stuck down and I think I am going to just dremel the arms of the regulator so I can get the window in the up position to install the manual reg., anybody see any problems with this? I am worried about the thing coming unsprung inside the door and messin' me up and the glass/door skin!

I believe the spring presure is if you are removing the motor from the regulator.

I don't see any problems with cutting the arms off the old regulator. Try to keep the sparks off the glass if you can. I've screwed up a windshield with grinding sparks before.

Yep, manual ones will spring if you don't have the crank attached, and electric only spring if you remove the motor. I am currently doing the reverse, changing my rear tailgate to electric.

The spring loaded issue is only a problem if changing the electric motor, or maybe the gear drive of a manual (the crank itself does make any different, it would have to be the gear drive to the regulator). If you go to the junkyard and get the complete manual regulator setup it's just a matter of swapping one for the other......I will warn you that it is pretty basic but does require a little patience to get everything lined up just right. I've installed a new electric motor on my power windows, and also converted them over to manual. Never removed the glass, but maybe that would be easier???

Finished this up yesterday, it was pretty easy(took longer at the junkyard looking for the parts). The spring was no problem and the manual reg. went in easy using instructions from the CUCV manual I found over on pirate4x4. I used a grinder(dremel failed, maybe died trying) to cut the power reg in two pieces, I did not feel like fighting it to get it out. Thanks for all the responses!

I'm bumping this. Would still love to get some pictures etc. I'm not a member of Pirate but if someone has any how-to's bookmarked on their computers, link them for me pretty please. I use to have ~35 bookmarked how-to's before my computer crashed :( not that this window thing was one of them :D:doah: I love keeping a folder and throwing stuff in it from time to time. Easy look up :waytogo:
