Double cross member

On trip to Home Depot I spotted this late 70’s shorty k10 and had to peak underneath.

was this a factory option or? I have wanted to do this with mine but my extra crossmembers are not long enough to reach the frame rails.

we’re different width cross member used in different decades or models for the K series?

its for the skid plate to mount up to . i have stripped a few . i still have the plates around here someplace .

2wd or 4wd and k30 are the specifics to watch for . since were talking 4wd thats 1 . and k30 trucks use a different depth crossmember over k10/k20 stuff . and last is 85-newer use totally different .

My 78 K30 4sp/205 has double crossmember/skid plate.

Yup even on the First Gen, GM sold with dual or single... mine came with a dual. The frame should have the holes for it, so if you can find one it should just bolt up
