Double wall hardtop bolt

Out of curiosity, how is the rubber seal that goes between the hardtop and the bed rails installed? Is it some type of adhesive? If so, is there a tutorial on prepping. This is purely hypothetical of course. :whistle:
 
The 3M stuff is ok. You just have to make sure the rubber seal contacts the top really well or it'll dry on there loose. Maybe put the top on a big flat surface (like the truck bed) and clamp it down with the bolts while it dries.
 
Looks like the reason my bolts weren't re-installed may have been because the top was put on about 1/4" back from where it should be. Maybe the same case with Senorx470?

How does the door gap at the windshield frame look? I'm guessing the windshield frame is laid back from the body mounts being worn out and forcing the top back.
 
Yes, body sag causes that. You can loosen up the brackets on the windshield frame so it can get closer, then have some buddy's push the top forward so you can get a couple bolts in.
 
There seems to be no gap at the windshield frame, but the gap between the back of the window and the top is about 1/8". I used to think it was just shrunken/worn out seals, but with a closer look I can see an imprint where the windows would seal tight if the top was pushed forward. I already planned on a 1" body lift with poly mounts, so I guess this issue will bump that up to a priority.
 
I may try to shove the top forward after I hit the windshield bolts with some penetrating lube and let them soak to prevent stripping or breaking. Body sag is definitely an issue that I'll ultimately need to fix with a lot of bracing and welding (as I've seen in many 1st gen threads here). I've been oxy-acetylene welding on a few other projects and am on the verge of doing body work on my trucks... but that'll be another post when I get the nerve to go into that uncharted territory.
 
Looks like these bolts will cover all the bed bolts that are missing according to the measurements given by Senorx470:

Pretty much the universal bolt/washer combo found all over the truck with the pointed tip is what I gather.
