Doubler,Black box,Stack or Lomax???

if i had to do it all over again steve id go for the black box...seems simpiler and not as common..might wanna add a pole

I have a Doubler but I'd love to add a Lomax. I like the selection options of a Doubler but realistically I think 3:1 is probably the best overall ratio.

I bought a Black Box for the simplicity, 2.72:1 low, and because you don't see many guys running them.

I'll find out how I like it in six months or so.

One guy here decided on a StaK, over a Black Box. Says it is AWESOME!! By not lengthining the drive train with an aditional box, your drive shaft angle is going to be better for the rear. Running a Low gear, multi selection tripple stick transfer case like a StaK you have less weight as far as total drive train weight and better D shaft angle with just as many Hi/Lo gear selections. I WAS going to go with a Black Box, but after reading his thread, I have decided to go with a StaK myself.

An aditional box would inproove your front D shaft angle though since it would lengthen the front shaft and decreasing the angle, but your rear shaft shortens and the angle gets worse. Someone correct me if Im wrong.

well when i was running my doubler the biggest advantage to me was i needed 1 spare drive shaft...the front was about 3 inches shorter than the rear...all i need i was i spare square tube shaft for the trail...i was running 1410 throughout also...just a little food for though

I thought about it.:D:haha:

465/203+Lomax?? You like to have choices dont ya?? :D

Thats what I'm sayin.I'm runnin a single 205 and it's nowhere near enuf.I thought about goin to a 465 and a lomax but I really want to keep my 400.What's the crawl ratio of a BB/205 verses a 203/205 doubler?? Anybody know???

The main drawback of a Stak (for me) is the price.I can get more gearing options(doubler)for less money.I could sell my 205 and have about half the $$ for the Lomax kit,but I dont know if 3:1 will be enuf.

4:1 out the doubler

4.68 out the black box

the truck i just bought has

6 to 1 (sm465)x2 (i think thats what a 203 is)x3.73=44.76...it seems preety low actually..im about to re gear to 456s though and thats all i need

Who's runnin what and why.I have been lookin at the Black box and it seems like a good alternative to a doubler.

Here we go again!..... :D

After a tremendous amount of research, I went with an Atlas-4. (Basically equivalent to the STaK option)

Uses the same planetary gearset as the Blackbox (2.72:1) and mates it to a 2:1 Atlas case.

Effective ratios are 1:1, 2:1, 2.72:1 and 5.44:1

if that's not deep enough they also offer a different combo with 10.34:1 final reduction.

Here it is bolted to a TH400 transmission:

It's going to be lighter and shorter than a conventional doubler....and possibly shorter than a Blackbox combo (depending on what case and adapters you end up with).

As you can see it's a reasonably short setup. The rear output is just about in-line with the rear step-up area in the floor. My front driveshaft will end up longer than my rear driveshaft with this combo...
