I have an older kicker L7 that someone gave me just sitting around and I also have the amp for it, so why not put it in my k5? I'm trying to keep the thought of prying eyes out of the mix so I want to build a Down firing ported box for it and make it look less like a sub box. Plus all the open air vehicle's I've ridden in sound much better when the sound bounces off stuff so i'm thinking about making the port down fire as well. Any car audio guru's that can help me out this?

basically this but with legs

Just space it up about 2 inches down firing boxes have been used for years with excellent results. The lower frequencies are not as directional as the higher frequencies but I think it would sound better down firing. The kickers like ported boxes and the slotted ports are harder to make but work better in my opinion!

I prefer sealed boxes to maintain tighter bass response. I use a wedge style box that fires down. It is spaced about 2 inches above floor level. Great response and range. Eventually I'll cut the back side panel and recess it back into the side. Hiding most of it, but still allowing plenty of air movement.
