*** Pictures Of My New 85 K5 ***

Would love to hear your thoughts. FYI - I bought it for $15,500.... I feel like I got a great deal but maybe you all would know better from the pics. Thank you all with regard to providing incredible feedback on the safety features and easing some of my wife's concerns. Dropping her off at my mechanics next week so we can run through her and take care of some top priorities. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this girl. I do want to get a soft top.... thinking Softopper. Made in my original home town. Eager to take the shell off. Need to think of a name ha ha

The story of how I happened upon her is incredible and almost felt like destiny. Goose bumps

as long as you are happy it is irrelevant what the rest of us think. I am one of the guys that remember being able to buy them for $1000 or so. it is amazing how much they have shot up in value in the last few years.

what's the plans? lift? tires? gears? sawzall?

Couldn't agree more Jeff. To me, this truck is priceless and I'm assuming we all feel that way. I'm never letting this one go. One day the boys will be driving the K5

Honestly.... haven't thought that far ahead yet. I'm a pretty minimal guy so couldn't see myself doing anything too dramatic but for sure a bit of a lift... maybe a couple "'s, bigger tires, possible fuel injection but don't know enough about whether or not it would be worth it. For sure some safety features like discussed in the safety thread like a cage etc.... Thanks man

Looks great, I’m not used to seeing them clean like that.

offroad design is your friend....
Lift it, bigger tires, shocks, new ORD leaf springs... have fun.

just a personal note. Adding CK5 stickers will increase horsepower, it’s scientifically proven.

there is a link to a cage
Sweet Thanks Jeff! I'll probably see myself getting this within the next couple weeks. Just got my hard top off. I'll share a couple pics of that later. Hey question? When you are walking in the bed of the truck.... is it supposed to have a little give to it? Obviously not as solid as walking in the bed of my 2020 Silverado.... right? I peeled back the fabric 12 inches or so to see the bed and it's solid, so probably not too concerned with rust under there. I'll leave that for another day. Thanks

Thanks man! Yeah that was the first thing I was thinking was "Dang, this thing is so clean" Thought I was dreaming for a seck. Although they all have their own unique surprises so we'll see what pops up ha.

I agree! My wife had me trade my old 4Runner in for her suburban, which we don't have anymore. The Trail Boss can off road pretty well but it's so dang big. I can't wait to hit some trails with this. Question? Should I worry about off roading at all with an 85? Like are they as capable as a 2010 4Runner for instance? They don't have rear lockers correct? Just the 4x4 hi and low

Thanks buddy! I'm sure we'll be chatting a lot. I'll be learning a lot from you guys

There is a lot of not original stuff there. Not sure if you know that, or care?

Don't lift it.

Martin

Hey Martin!

Thank You for your feedback. Yeah for sure care! I'd love to hear more about what you see. I'm a bit of a original/minimalistic person so as close to original is what I prefer. Thank You man

No problem.

The steering wheel is from I believe a van.
The door panels have a bunch of aftermarket stuff.
The engine is not original, ihas later model cylinder heads on it.
The accessory drive should have v-belts (and one small serpentine).
A bunch of stuff under the hood was painted black, that was not originally.
The air cleaner is aftermarket.

Just little things like that. Clean truck just the same.

Martin

I agree with Martin. That truck looks too clean to go all ham on it.

also, you mentioned taking it to a mechanic. Better start learning how to do your own stuff or it’s going to be expensive.
you’ll be able to gain tons of guidance here if you choose to delve into the maintenance/ repairs yourself.
Thanks man! Yeah I love original as possible

I used to do all the work on my 4Runner and definitely more motivated than that, to do the work on this. I have a pretty good basic foundation that I can build off of.... and learn how to keep her goin strong. Thank you for the motivation

Awesome how you can just pick all that up from looking at my pics. Eager to learn more for sure. Thanks brother

Looks clean for sure. As much as I hate to admit it, what you paid is the going rate for clean unmolested K5 is getting now.

Looks like it's got an aftermarket intake on it, valve covers are orange. Tells me someone might have been through the engine or swapped in a crate engine. Hard to tell.

I'd get the feeling from your mechanic how it checks out for the safety items. Steering, suspension, brakes, tires. Get a state of health on the engine/trans and fluid checks on the diffs and t-case.

From that point you should have a pretty good idea of what needs to come next. Once all the safety and maintenance items are caught up then it would be the right time to look into the upgrades. Lift/tires, ect. Be cautious though. It's a mighty deep rabbit hole to go down.

Getting bigger tires looks cool but how big you go will dictate other required mods. Might need gearing, bigger lift or cutting sheet metal to fit. Then more items will follow because of those modifications. All our trucks started out stock in the beginning, but most of them around here are far from stock.

I'd drive it once you get it mechanically sound. Figure out what YOU want to do with it. Then look at what needs to be done to suit the purpose.

Wow incredible feedback thank you man

used to have the 305.... the previous owner dropped in the 350. Repainted exterior a few years back “which is a bit busted but works for now” and interior is newer.

the way my brain works. I love seeing original stock parts. Somethin about it!

Completely agree! Going to start off by getting caught up on all the must needs off the bat, to keep her goin strong. Then go from there

I’ve driven her about 20 miles so far. Other than the RPM’s heading below 3 when idle .... and me needing to just add a pinch of gas so it doesn’t stall.... everything is great
