drill bits & air drill

so, i need a 29 piece drill bit set for drilling metal. are the titanium or cobalt coated bits worth the money? snap on wants 180 for their bits and matco wants 160 something for irwin bits. not about to spend that much. i'd spend $100 for a decent set.

what do yall think about these? or you got a better suggestion.

my other question is, I bought an IR 7803 1/2" air drill.... it's nice, very powerful, but takes damn near forever to drill in steel, because it's slower. I used a coworkers 3/8" high speed air drill, and it cut a whole lot quicker. Is there a bit that works better for my slower more powerful drill, or should I just get a high speed 3/8" drill and stick a 1/2" chuck on it?

Make sure to get good bits. Sears generally doesn't carry alot of good bits from my experience. You are better off finding bits at places that are more supply houses for trades or Grainger or something.

Cobalt bits are great for heavy steel with a slow speed drill. If you spin cobalts fast you will burn them up in no time. Titaniums are the ones you want if you want to spin bits fast and not kill them as quickly. Cobalts tend to be stronger then titaniums though so get the right bit for the work you are doing.

if you want a good set of bits... answer one question..
1/2" chuck or 3/8" chuck

then pick the drill
pdr3a=3/8 air drill
pdr5a=1/2 air drill

dbtb129=29 pc set, full shank
dbtr129=29pc set reduced shank

dont go cheap, go good

From what I have seen, 1/2" drills are geared lower. My Snap-on 1/2" is 800 RPM, if it was too fast it would rip my arm off it if the drill hung up. I only use mine for large holes. I ended up getting a surplus aircraft 3/8" on ebay, it is 3000 RPM. I would recommend staying around 2000 RPM unless you are drilling sheet metal.

The Irwin from Matco also have a warranty. I just replaced 1/8 1/4 3/8 for free.

I have used them on sheet to 1/2 material including leaf springs.
