so i see a member wants some drip rails here in the wanted section. then another guy says his dont have them or were removed.

what is the general idea on these ?

needed or not is the question .

if you have good door seals should you not need them ?

If you don't have them and open the window water will poor in on you. My late model Dodge doesn't have drip rails, ask me how I know about the water pouring in. :doah:

Yah if it rains alot where you are I would keep em.

And yes it pours water in the window with out em

Out here I will eventually shave em off my crew cab cause it doesn't rain alot.

i tend to keep the windows up when raining out. and also if need be i will get a set of vent visors the stainless steel style like back in the day .

so otherwise i am cool to remove them ? its not going to rot the door or cab off much faster ?

The roof is rotted on my '82 around the rain drip rails to the point I had to use metal roofing repair tape to cover the holes ,in the rear corner of the cab!..but my roof was probably bashed in by a tree or something, someone put a few gallons of bondo across the entire roof and threw a Lund visor on it,probably to hide more rot above the windsheild....Those drip rails do help a lot,I have the vent visors on the doors ,and they wont keep water from sneaking between the door and cab where the weatherstripping goes, thats where water pours in if you dont have drip rails...it probably would rust out faster without any too I bet...worst "leaker" I had was my 72 K5--every time I took a ride in it in the rain,I'd have water blowing in from the corner of the windsheild where the top meets it,and the sun roof loved to pour a cupful of water into my crotch during sharp left turns ,which was pretty embarassing,it'd look like I wet my pants when I'd get out...needless to say I didn't drive it on dates if it was raining out!..:doah:..

I was just thinking about it and the drip rails were different between my 80 K10 and 91 K5. My 80 had removable rails that were screwed to the cab (maybe 4 screws, I think) but my K5's rails are not removable - I think they're bonded to the cab and dressed with seam sealer stuff (it's all painted over so I can't be sure).
