I have the opportunity to buy a 1990 R1500 (2wd) Suburban for ~$200 from a local college where it was used as a maintenance/parts truck. It is currently moving under its own power with a recently rebuilt transmission. The body has rusted underneath so badly that it has fallen down on the rear mounts and the previous owner had cut the top of the bumper off to be able to open the "barn door" style rear doors.

It has a TBI 350 that I was eying for my 74 K5 as a cheap conversion to fuel injection so I would be tearing out the wiring, sensors, fuel pump, and ECU to make the swap work. I was going to keep the 700-R4 (4L60) for use in my Chevelle project.

I had also thought of trying to swap the tilt column and then keeping the 2WD steering box as a start for a cross over steering setup.

It has power windows and power locks and the front doors are in VERY good condition (considering the rest of the body) so I was going to keep them for my K5 as well, to make use of the power windows/lock setup.

Anything else that I should look at keeping for my K5?

Once I get everything off of it that I want, I will put up a thread in the for sale section opening up whatever is left to anyone here.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Interior pieces any good?
I'm hunting for new interior, seats, dash, and all new dash for my K5.

The interior is all there, but I will be keeping the center console, the front doors and door panels, and possibly the dash if I can figure out if it can be swapped as a whole. There are several sets of seats in the thing... I will snap some pictures of everything when I put up the For Sale thread.

Right now I am trying to figure out what I should keep for my K5. I will likely be bringing it back to my place to tear it down for the most part but keeping it powered and mobile, then taking it down to my dad's where I will tear out the engine/transmission

I think I saw where someone on here swapped that style dash into his truck.

Here are some pictures:

Just needs some air, a battery, and a dealer plate then I can drive it home.

Dude, run, don't walk, with the cash. You can't pick up the TBI stuff for $200, let alone the whole engine. Scrap the rest, sell the trans, and you should have your money back, maybe more.

Already have plans for a lot more than just the engine! As soon as the maintenance guy gets in on Monday, it will be mine.

I would buy it.... strip a bunch of crap off it that i dont need but would keep anyways and take it to the scrap yard and make $50 profit off it

Well, I am sure it is mine now, but being that it is owned by the college, they have to go through the proper scrap procedures; weight it, figure the value based on current scrap prices, and then they can sell it.

DUDE...!

i'm 2 hours away... looking for interior stuff, to fit my Crew Cab... especially seats... those back doors look nice for extra's too... let's deal...!

Definitely! I will let you know when I have it back to my place. I still am not sure if I will be driving it back to my house or tossing it up on the trailer and taking it down to my dad's place to tear it apart.

no problem, i've got some time before the tax man sends me ma' money...!

BTW, nice Chevelle... i had a '70 4 door sedan, now i have a '72 4 door sedan...

$250 later and it is now in my dad's shop! Since I was buying it from a college, I just had to wait for all of the paperwork to get to the proper people for signatures on their end.

The thing runs strong and shifts VERY nice! They need to find me the 3rd row seat which I plan on grafting into my 74 K5 so I have the somewhat easily removable rear seat instead of the bolt in style currently there.

I will be going down tonight to continue stripping it down. The seats are pretty much out. The driver seat is still in so that I can move the truck around. The carpet is not in all that bad of condition, however I may not be able to take it out without cutting it because I know that some of the seat belt bolts are not going to come out without a fight.

The headliner is sagging bad, but it has a full overhead console with 4 lights and 2 compartments. I will be saving all of the pillar trim as well if anyone wants it.

86-1ton, I attempted to PM you with my contact info, but for some reason that option is not available. If you want, you can email me @gmail.com using my screen name before the '@'. Once I get everything off that I want and you get what you need, I will create a thread in the For Sale section to see what anyone else may want.
