I picked up a M1028 CUCV pickup with 4.56 geared Dana60 front/14ff rear. The Dand 60 front has a TracLoc tag on it.
How are the TracLoc's for on road driving in the winter?
Any issues with TracLoc's, besides needing special fluid?
Tire size limitations?

EDIT: I ask as I am thinking of swapping the D60 into winter daily driver Suburban. Running up to 36"-39" tire.

Never driven one but a trac loc is a limited slip and not a very good one at that. It uses clutches and should have a special additive to help it last and not chatter. More than likely it is mostly worn out but even if its new it will be fine in the front.

I've got one in mine. Works on occasion. Don't really know its there though.

I wheeled an Eaton Posi in my 10b front..... Might as well have been open. :dunno:

Posi's suck.

I drive a truetrac in my 10 bolt all winter and even my detroit in the k30s 60 has done well.

trac lock is week unit . and aka name is trash lock.

if it works great. but dont hold your breath .

best posi is power lock unit . and or full locker or arb . if on budget and open diff lockright or other lunchbox locker.

I had a Trac Lock in my D60 with 44's, with respect to steering I couldn't tell it was there. It did hold enough to break a 30 spline stub once but it would one wheel also. I'd use a free one but wouldn't spend money on one.

When I reassemble my D60 again I'll be using a restacked / locked up Power Lock.

Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to make sure the TracLoc wasn't gonna blow up like a GovBomb 14ff. For the driving I do, I'm ok with it handling like an open unit in the front. Sounds like I can leave it in there and not worry. Thanks again.

Don't worry about it blowing up, it doesn't have the moving parts the Gov Locks do.
