I have an 81 k10 sub with a 208 slip yoke t case, if a swap in a 241 with a sye kit will I have to get a different front drive shaf?

Also I know it has been talked about before but I would like some personal opinions on this. I currently have a 3/4ton 10blt front that needs regeared to 4.56, other wise it is good to go. But a friend of mine has a dana 44 out of an old chevy that needs some work, brakes, bearings, etc... but it already has 4.56 gears in it and he said I can have it if I come and get it. So I know some people say the 44 is no stronger than a 10 blt but doesn't the 44 have 30 spline axles and 10 blt has like 28? So I know it will be expensive to get the 10 blt regeared sould I get the 44 or what? THANKS for any help.

You will need a longer drive line. What are you using the rig for?
If you decide to put another axle in, I would start saving for a 60.
Other than that, I would keep the 10 bolt and re gear it.

Well my sub will see mud, old logginig roads, and deep woods trails, no rocks. It has 3" lift front 4" lift rear, 14blt 4.56 detroit rear, 10blt open front. 350 engine, th350 tranny and np208 tcase, runnin 34.5 x 10.5 super swamper LTBs. It would take me a long time to save for a d60 and I don't know that I need one.

Then I would stick with the 10 bolt and get some sicky u-joints and shafts while your in there doing gears.

To answer your first question, No. The front shaft is the same for a 208 or a 241.

just take the 44 and put the 10 bolt outers on it, EASY and free. As for the driveline, same front, longer rear.

what do you mean by put the 10 blt outers on the 44? and what is the reason. will a dana44 not just bolt in under my rig in place of a 10blt?

You will only need to change outer if the one is a 1/2 and the other a 3/4 (So you can use your wheel bearings and brakes) The shafts are different, but from ball joints out they are the same.

Check on the prices, is it cheaper to regear the 10b or is the d44 needing work inside the pumpkin? If not, use the 44 like Oneton said and save $.
