I searched for a thread cause I was thinking I remembered there being a thread for drive over fenders. I am picturing some made from tube then 16ga diamond plate skin between the tube. I have a stack of 1.75" laying in the floor I bought for a job that fell through. Its making me want to build everything out of tube. 88k5beast's thread in the garage about the trick tabs & Dzues clips ain't helping either.( no Dzues clips for the trailer just saying in general)

My trailer is a 16' flat deck with a 2' dove. It is 6'10" between the Fenders. I have been driving over the thin factory style fenders so you can imagine they look like hell.

Lets see some pics of what you guys have built!

No pics maybe soon, I have built a bunch.

My favorite was bending up 2 tubes and skinning them with I think it was 14 gauge sheet metal. Took a while to get the bends in the tubes right though because we wanted it to look good so it actually ended up being 4 bends in each tube. Dang I wish I had taken pics:doah: It was sweet. Did it for a guy in Wyoming. All skinned up they looked like really fancy fenders. But you could drive just about anything over em.

Most I see just do a single bar on the inside of the fender.

When I bought my trailer I thought I would have to do some but as it turns out my fenders can take it. I drive Horton over one of them every time I load and they have not tweaked or bent at all. I doubt they are stock though

Mine are removable so I don't smash them.

Those are nice but I'm too lazy to take them on & off. I want stupid simple don't have to think about it. Plus that way when it gets borrowed there is nothing to loose.

I also plan on building some mailbox cutters on the front of the fenders.

What is a mailbox cutter?

^^^^yea what he said

I guess that mailbox cutter is not a common term.

It's just a piece of steel that runs from the leading outside edge of the fender back to the trailer deck so that if you drop a tire off the road & hit a mailbox post it is supposed to break the post off instead of mangling you fender. Also gives a good place to step up onto the trailer deck.

Like on the front of this fender.

so the triangle part that ties the fender into the frame there, with the light on it?

Here is what I built. My trailer is a tilt deck and the fenders do not tilt, just the inside frame. They are 1 1/2" pipe, with a piece of 6" x 1/8" flat laid in between. I built some 1 1/2" spacers that went between the trailer and the inner fender tube so that I can now just drive through. I added "mailbox cutter" too, front and rear. Also added the the 2x3 rec tubing on the sides to get the tilt part a little wider. I can't run inner fenders now, but that's ok with me. I did add some mud flaps on the back too, trying to keep some paint on the tail lights. They could easily be driven over though.

I like those, looks good, they are very similiar to what I am picturing in my head.

I see they are braced back to the sides of the trailer between the tires, are they braced under the front or rear of the fender?

The front is braced really well with a triangle, "mailbox cutter", really I just wanted a step. I have taken out a few cones on two lanes during construction, so they won't hurt for that too. The back has a tube between them and then the rear little triangle/step connects them too. I can snap some more pics tomorrow.

That would be great, I was wondering if that would be enough to support them when you drive over them, Sounds like it is.

Here are some more from front to back. I'm confident it will bow out the trailer frame before they come off, being my trailer frame doesn't go all the way back with the tilt. The spacers are 1 1/2" on each side, so they opened up 3" more of room, which is plenty for my dana 60, with 42 iroks, hummer wheels with flat centers and 1/2" wheel spacers. Not sure on the exact measurement so I thought I would just list it out. If I put inner fenders on they would just barley miss the tires cold, I'm sure they would rub once heading down the highway.

Here is the back brace and the the pic of the rear step. I liked the look better when the step was on the tilt frame, but I got it lowered by 3" by putting it here. The wife is happier. I used street bike led license plate lights on all four corners of the plate. Only around 10$ shipped from china. Nothing like adding another couple 100 lb's to the trailer:doah:

Scott, needs more triangulation...:pimp:

Nicely done, I need to make a few mods to mine too.

I like that idea! I have been thinking on what I am gonna do with my trailer here soon as my fenders are caving in when I drive anywhere near em lol. The blazer is almost driveable again so gotta do some work on the trailer asap!!
