Hey guys, trying to whip up a drive shaft tonight.
Getting rid of the stock CV, but had a quick question.
I found that there are plastic nubs sticking out each side of where the u-joints hit the CV. Are they what hold them in? Looking for a brief explanation of how to tear it down I guess. Kind of noobish but it's just something I've never touched on my truck before plus its freakin cold outside...
I expected to find clips holing in the ujoints but there are none.

Specs (if it helps any)
78k10 d44front sm465-NP205

Thanks guys
Matt

yeah the plastic "worm" as they call it. i hate those friggin things. i can never seem to get it hot enough to get them out. last time i tried i ended up just cutting the ears off the driveshaft on one half (cause i didnt want that part anyways) i was using map gas though maybe thats why. but yeah heat it up then press it out. hopefully someone will explain better ive only had to deal with those once.

I beat the crap out of those plastic worms.
My buddy left for work but we found that he had bought a ball joint removal tool from harbor freight essentially a c-clamp on steroids :D

One question though, should I use the yoke on the drive shaft side of the CV, I already cut out the center section. I'm just wondering about strength now I suppose i could beef it up but do i need to?

well here are the results, testing it out tomorrow. :wink1:

were you able to get them out without heating them? i put them in my 100lb giant vise with a breaker bar and the dang thing wouldnt budge

LOL...I don't think it'll matter much on a Sq tube front shaft. ;)

I'll grind another notch and set it right, someone told me that it should be out of phase... he drove a ford :D

Drive shaft works great though, only vibrates when i have the hubs locked in while in 2wheel or clutch in while in 4wheel.

The cross pip for the exhaust was in the way after dropping the T-case and I was broke so I band-aided it for the time being.
