Hello all. I'm trying to find a new or rebuilt rear drive shaft for my 87. Auto parts stores and online searching have come up with nothing. Id go to a salvage yard but there aren't really any out hear. Any suggestions? Thanks

Not sure if you'll find any new or rebuilt rear driveshafts anywhere. What's wrong with the one you have? If it's just u-joints they can be replaced pretty easy and cheap. If the tube is damaged then a new one will have to be made at a local driveline shop. If the front slip yoke is worn that can be replaced also.

Let us know what's wrong and we can point you in the right direction.

Its the front slip yoke if that's where the u joint sits. There's not much left of it. Is that something Id have done at a machine shop?

I wouldn't waste time looking in junkyards--since they started using forkloaders to lifr vehicles ,just about every rear wheel drive vehicle gets the drive shaft kinked or dented when they hoist it off the flatbed ...unless you happened to find a truck someone just drove in they hadn't tried picking up yet, you'll be hard pressed to find one thats not bent up junk...some really old yards pulled driveshafts and saved them, but its not fun going thru piles of them trying to find one like yours...

I have used a few car deiveshafts in GM trucks, had to shorten them though--I have a place I can get that done pretty reasonable not far away..

A good driveline shop can cut off your splined end and weld a new one on and balance uit,but it'll probably run you 150+ bucks, the spline alone is probably close to 100 bucks if not more...sometimes they wont charge much more to just build you one from scratch..

Surely there must be SOME place that has a lot of NOS driveshafts piled up like cordwood!..tried a google search??..

I have one from a 89, I put in a doubler and got new tom woods shafts. Post a pic so I can see if its the same, you can have it if you pay shipping or pick it up.

He did 3 shafts for me, a front for my 83 all 1350 for 225, a rear 1350 with slip yoke for my 83...275 and a rear 4 inch tube for my 03 2500hdwith slip yoke for 255.

Not many can beat the shafts for that price.....awesome service and free or cheap shipping

I fond a place here in Casper, Wy called Drive Line Industries. They're awesome! Thank you all so much for your help. I will be paying for a membership to help support the site.
@Dustin, I really appreciate the offer. I didn't see your post until after I go the new one.
Thanks again.
