When my brother and I lifted his K5 6" we didnt do a darn thing to his rear driveshaft and its still cooking no busted u-joints (that I can remember) and hasn't come apart on the rocks.

Usually a 6" lift requires about 2 extra inches on the shaft.

I did about 5inches inthe rear and didn't lengthen my rear shaft, but I blew two joints in 2 years, so I think I am going to go ahead and get it lengthened an inch or two..

I went up 6 inches just last week. I dropped the T case and that's it. So far no problems on road but I'll do some wheelin on Sun. I'm picking up a custom shaft from a buddy as soon as he takes it out of his Jimmy. The splines on my shaft are stickin out from the yoke a bit.. bout 2 inches. I'll let you know if anything happens but I'd go with a custom shaft eventually.

I would say yes, you will need a new drive shaft. If i were you I would go with a cv drive shaft. They aren't cheap but it will last a long time and you will not keep dropping the drive shaft. And it will get rid of the vibration at high speeds like highwat driving. Later LittleJimmy....

I went 4" and had the drive shaft lengthened 1 3/4" to get rid of a small vibration that was killing u-joints. Depends on what shape the slip joint is in. If there is any play in the joint, have it re-worked.

I have 5.5" of lift in the back, 4" springs & 1.5" blocks with a stock legenth driveshaft. I did lower the transfercase when I added the blocks, though. That minimizes the change.
