Driveline problem

That sounds like your spider gears. If it is "only" those it can be fixed relatively easily. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif These two gears are broke right?

Get some new spiders then, real easy to repair, just make sure you clean out the housing real good.

Thanks, I have a little hope now. Do I just have to slide out the axle shafts, like my Haynes manual shows (thats about all it shows), and set the new gears in place? I fell for the Kiwi link, it wont help. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Nope, CAREFULLY remove that little bolt holding in the crosshaft, they break real friggin easy, remove the crosshaft, rotate one tire or the carrier whatever to make the remaining spiders rotate out, and reinstall the same way, but in reverse order. And don't overtighten the crosshaft bolt but use some loc-tite.

or, if you aren't going to run too large a tire, you forget those gears and just get a lockright, fits in place of those gears /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

There are no pieces of the spiders left in place. They are a pile of debris now, so the "reverse order" is going to have to be guesswork? I just called my local driveline shop; they have my gears for $117.81, I may have to save my milk money for a while, but at least I know what to do.

You'll be able to finger it out, it's not that hard, i guess 2 of the hardest parts is removing that little bolt without breaking it off inside, and realigning the spiders so that the crosshaft will go straight through both spiders.

Like Paul says, price a Lockright locker, might be a good time /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I will look in to the Lockright lockers. My next project was going to be the part time kit and some hubs, but I guess the rear end has to come first. Thanks so much for all your help, everyone. /forums/images/graemlins/bow.gif

He just broke an open 12 bolt now you guys want him to lock it /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif I would just look for a set of spiders especially if you plan on upgrading the axles. Pretty sure somebody around here hasd a set of spiders for a 12 bolt /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Was just a thought, seems a good upgrade, especially if he is going to convert to parttime 203. I know alot of guys run 1 ton stuff. But I personally seen many AZ trucks that run 12 bolts hold up. One guy beat on his for like 8 years before he snapped a shaft. Besides the lockright is ony twice the price of spider quote he got , and stronger by far. Oh well. I am sure also someone here has some cheap spiders. I'd offer mine, but I keep some stuff in my trail box just in case. /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Spider gears are a far much easier task to tackle than a T-Case chain! Glad it was something simple! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif You should be on the road again this afternoon!

The Shopper comes out today, you can pick it up at Circle K for $0.75. Check in the parts section for a truck 12 bolt rear. Worst case, find a ten bolt and swap the whole axle.

Call up your local 4x4 shop and see if anybody has left their stock carrier and gears in place of the locker they just had installed and ask if they would sell you the spider set.
