Driver accessible switch and control placement

I'm looking for a more useable place to put two rocker switches for my front and rear locking diffs. I had them mounted under the dash below the heater controls during my trip to moab, but i found i couldn't reach them easily when I needed to the most. The biggest problem i had was disabling the front locker so I could turn at the top of a steep climb. Gravity kept pulling me back into my seat.

Has anyone seen any switches or controls located in a easier to reach spot? Preferably something that might even look like it was offered during 1969-1972? Somewhere on the console seems like the best option at the moment.

Using the same software that Grinch used, I designed a panel for my console. I'll try to get a pic up tomorrow. Been slowly pulling stuff together...

Definitely want to see that. Even better if I can keep my cup holders. Only problem with that is the possibility of spilling soda on them. I'm kinda looking at placing them on the front of the console down near the shifter so they are wired from the inside of the console.

As a related idea, maybe adding a little switch box that plugs into the small ashtray pocket on the console for wheeling would work ok. Then I can unplug it and store the "switch box" away when I'm cruising on the freeway.

So you covered the whole area including the cup holders? I'm also looking at maybe a USB plug for iPod charging. Maybe I can keep my cup holders and squeeze the stuff between the holders... Thanks! Any pics of it installed?

No cupholders on mine. First gen consoles have the seatbelt holders...that's what the two large rectangle cutouts are. No panel yet. Just the design.

That's right, I keep forgetting about that. I'll have to try the software link and see if I can come up with anything that works.

Why not put all the buttons on the steering wheel with latching relays, and a contact ring to provide the electrical connection for each???

Can't be any more work than your crazy radio was!!!

I think that would be less work. hmmm, anyone ever see Bluetooth activated relays or switches? Those could work on the steering wheel.

on the door panel if you run doors
overhead panel
run a nice wiring harness that's wrapped into one tight loom into a small box with your switch panel, kinda like the lowerrider hydrolic switch panels you can hold outside of the car. That way you can have it in reach but put it aside when ur not hardcore

I know that, you live in the south bay which is lowrider territory. Hell that's where they all buy their hydraulics from is San Jose (Lowrider Hydraulics).

Really? That's funny. I figured all the lowriders were up in Hayward or Oakland. I haven't seen anything but loud Harley's. Maybe I'll look up lowrider hydraulics and pose as someone interested in that kinda thing. Im sorta kidding, but it might be interesting to see what's available.

I did a quick search and I guess Lowrider Hydraulics is no more but back in the day EVERYONE who had anything to do with hydraulics of any kind went there for their stuff.

Why not make a nice switch panel to mount on the windshield bar of your rollcage?

Sorta kidding? Has anybody else met Brian? I wanna see the video of him posing as somebody interested in lowriders! He looks like he came out of the really bad part of Bangor or maybe even Penobscot Bay. That was great, thanks Brian!
