Ok here is my problem. I did an echobit flip and ended up with a pinion angle perfect for a CV shaft which I do not have. I measured my angles and ordered some shims, but I obviously miscalculated and ended up with my pinion pointing too far down now. Now its too late to order some different shims so I am thinking a longer shackle should get me right in there. Does anybody know or have an educated guess of how many degrees my pinion will move up with 2" longer shackles? The shackles sit at about a 45 degree angle right now.

I had issues with my echobit- not the echobit itself, but the issues that it caused.

I tried, much like you, stock shaft. Spent like 200 dollars in shims, u-bolts, etc... trying to get it right. Tried the dropped T-case. Tried the angling/shiming of the t-case. Nada. Didnt work right.

I ended up getting an AZ-kickin lift block/repositioner, and moved my axle back a bit. Then added a CV drive shaft. I still get a bit of vibe, because my pinion is still a tad bit off. But its worlds better.

I hated the vibes , but thats what a flip with no CV does . Quick easy , and roadworthy is the CV .

How far does your point down now ? A little bit down is fine , most manufacturers point it down a nose hair to deal with wrap-up when you accelerate ( lots of Fords through history ) .

Its a couple degrees down. I over estimated for wrap, but went a couple degrees too much. I think a couple degrees would get rid of most of the vibes. It is TERRIBLE below 40 MPH, but tolerable above that. The joint is over its happy operating limit.

I have to drive this to WA state (1000 mi) Thurs night Fri morn for my move.

This will get a CV shaft soon...just trying to get it to my new state of residence in one piece.

i could not cure my vibes for ever, my motor mounts are toast. maybe if you get new ones it will get you in your 1-2* down for proper pinion angle. also can you drop your case maybe 1/2 inch instead of a full inch? then longer shackles could help, not sure on how much though.

will longer shackles in the rear help? Sure. But by how much, really, it isnt really that much. Another inch would be maybe .75 degrees.

You'll waste more money trying to fix this problem with bandaids, then by just buying the CV the first time. Take it from someone who did the same route as you, only to end with the CV.

I am in total agreeance. I don't want to bandaid this but I need to drive my truck to WA state Thurs after work. I am at the point where I am just going to drive it and carry a couple spare joints, my tools, and my grease gun. The vibes are not terrible at speed, but we'll see how long they last I guess.

If it makes you feel any better , I grenaded my CV in Moab BB06 , and drove on my spare shaft ( no CV ) home vibes and all . 500 miles I guess no problem . I did carry a spare joint for my spare shaft though just in case .

Yeah that makes me feel a little better. I am going to buy two new joints and then go. I will also have a whole spare setup with two spare sets of joints.

i drove on mine several weeks like that. broke and needed to get to work, joints lasted but t-case is all wallered out.

I think I am closer to being "equal angles" with the shim in. I am only 2-3 degrees off with the shim and I am like 7-8 degrees off without it. I got up to 70 tonight on the drive home from work and it seemed good. Little vibe, but its hard to tell if its tire or otherwise.

You think so? It wont take me anything to pull that shim out.

On second thought I have no jackstands...it may take a little work.

I'll probably throw new joints in and carry spare stuff.

It'll be an adventure:haha::crazy:

Well amazingly enough with a few hundred pounds of boxes in the back changed the angle just a bit it seems. I only test drove it up to 45, but it seemed mu smoother in the low speeds. We'll see I guess I got new joints and two spare sets with an extra driveshaft and slip yoke:wink1:
