Soooo...I'm having front driveshaft issues. Here's some background: I have a 78 K10 with 10" front lift, 42s, a dana 44 front axle, and a 4spd with an NP205. I have clocked the transfercase down as far as I can. The transfercase has yoke outputs. I had originally removed the CV from a longer driveshaft to make it fit with a single u-joint on both ends and had clearanced the yoke. This didn't fare too well the first time out. All was good just running through my dad's field and stuff so I decided to ease it into the big mud hole and romp on it.....................................This did NOT go well....I heard it start to go so I stood on it to make it through because the only thing to pull me out was a 4 cyl. Wrangler haha. So I ended up breaking the front output yoke in half and shearing both shift rails off the t-case flush and the driveshaft was found about 20 feet away. No u-joints were broken.

What do you guys think I should do as a temporary fix?? I'm gathering parts to swap in a D60, NV4500, and divorced t-case. :dunno:

haha yeah thats a tad bit above budget at this point. Trying to get it working for my bachelor party lol. Anyone know what the limit on taking caster out of it is to turn the pinion up and still be able to drive it? Right now I'm running about 4 degrees caster. I think if I turn the pinion up it may survive the night.

sounds like no mater what, you're going to try it :D I don't see rotating the pinion up helps the top u joint any though. You could go as high as possible, as long as the pinion bearing is still lubed

haha yeah I'm pretty much dead set on it. It'll help slightly. I'm going to try to raise the trans crossmember higher than stock too. Every little bit counts ya know. I just wish I had the money to put in all the parts I have haha. Weddings will do that to you I suppose.:dunno:

progress

So I decided to pull the tcase sunday. I had a spare laying around that was missing the output housing. I am going to swap the shafts and shiftrails into my current case and reseal everything. I believe it will work...I swear it will...haha.
I would post pictures but at the moment I don't know how. I've got the donor case disassembled and the moving onto my current case.

EDIT: I guess I figured the pics out

Swap to a 32 spline front output shaft, this will improve your yoke choices.

Yeah I was reading up on it. I guess Chevy uses a 30 spline with the flange style. There seems to be absolutely no support for it in the aftermarket haha. I'm going to try this for now and see what happens 'cause its still an upgrade. I think the yoke was just so lacking in material around it, it couldn't take the abuse. My divorced case sitting in the corner is all 32 spline and its calling to me. I just don't have the funds to put it all in yet.

Use the divorced case as a donor for now and use the big front output shaft plus the big yoke off of the rear. I used this set up on a very similar truck for years with a single joint at the t-case.

What size is the rear yoke? I thought it was a 1310 too. Its an old dodge case. They all look pretty small.

Well it could be either a 1310 or 1350, I was assuming I was the big one.
