Reassembling bits to make a spare shaft for the front, and I can't remember the rule for U-joints and yokes facing which way, further complicated as I fink it's what you call a double-cardan, i.e. one end has the two U-joints on it.

Here's a couple photochops of my options:

Option A, wherein the yoke and the cardan thingie are parallel:

Option B, wherein they're ... well, not:

Somebody remind me how it's supposed to work?

Thank you both. And am I right in calling this a double-cardan type shaft? What do you call the .. .thing ... on the left?

Yup.

Technically its a double cardan joint. But most people take the half ass way and call it a cv joint. When its actually an "almost cv" joint.

When you are running a DCJ it doesn't matter but for the sake of argument on phasing joints on a drivehsaft, yes, option B.
