still working on my issues but i just found out the guy that put new joints in my driveshaft did not mark it.some of my vibration could be from it being out of time but thats why i always mark because i dont know how to tell.any help would be appreciated:waytogo:

What do you mean mark it when you're just changing joints? I could see timing the ends if you were re-tubing it but to just change joints I don't see the point.
Maybe I've been lucky but I just change joints and go and have never had vibe problems.

Your referring to them being in phase with one another.

They do no need to be marked per say but you do need to have the yokes lined up and in phase with one another.

Its also a good way to mess with a friend:popcorn:

make sure the yokes are line up... like the pic.

Were in High springs do you live? I used to live in Alachua right off 235. Miss that place[/quote]

Just off 138, west of town. They try to keep things going to boost business, things are going well in town. Alachua too, a new Lowes by the food lion. Hey does this rate as a thread highjack?:haha:

I wouldn't recommend that. I use to work at a shop where a garbage truck came to us right after they took it to a different shop to have the u-joints replaced. The first shop wouldn't service the Allison so they brought it to us next. The Allison was serviced by the shop I worked at, the customer left with the truck, and called back a few minutes later. The truck made it all of nine miles from when it left the first shop, to our shop, and then down the road, where it completely shattered the bellhousing on the transmission, and the flywheel housing on the Cummins. The driveshaft was out of phase. Cost the first shop a few thousand dollars to have us replace the transmission.

I have nothing to add but interesting info incase I ever need it. :D

Thanks NoCal for the diagram.

I don't expect a little K5 at have one, but if theres a slip joint in the shaft, 2 piece shaft with a carrier bearing. that joint need to be perfectly in phase as well. its splined and even 1 spline out will make a mess of it. theres no master spline so you've got to be dead on.
