Did a search and read some comments but how about some more recent recommendations? I need two driving lights to mount on my front bumper. I am leaning towards Hella, but anybody else have thoughts? 55W or 100W? Plastic or metal housing? Brands?

so your going to be using these while driving on the road right? just want to clarify lol but you might want to double check state laws, it seems like theirs only a certain watt light you can go up to. like the 55w. i cant remember though. hella makes a great light. so does PIAA. but they get pricey. might could just check out walmart???

No driving on the road with them, strictly off road. Although, I never really thought of using them on the road. I suppose I could.

You should begin, IMO, by converting your existing headlights to the halogen-insert 'euro' style -- Hella makes a kit, been discussed here, or LMC sells one (though IIRC they get more for it.)

I'm pretty sure your truck has been rewired, as I remember relays by the lights, which is key for such upgrades.

Past that, I'm partial to the Hella 500's, myself; not expensive, but add a considerable amount of light. The 550 is a similar light but in the rectangular style if you prefer that to the round.

I've had no problems with the plastic housings, either durability or thermal issues.

I have trucks with both and you're welcome to swing by sometime to see 'em, if you wanna brave the neighborhood in the dark :haha:

I already do have the converted headlights to the Hella ones, just not sure what type. In fact, I'm going to have to identify which ones I have in case either of them goes out and I need to replace them. The Jagged ones are interesting but how do HID's stand up to the abuse? I prefer the round over rectangular and I was looking at those Hella 500's. I'd drive to Concord but didn't you just have a riot there at the concert? Concord and rioting, who would have thunk it.....:eek1:

I don't do any wheeling with the dodge but if you have ever driven in the northeast the roads can be pretty bad. They've seemed to hold up ok so far. I got the website off of pirate4x4 so some people over there might have better off-road reviews on them.

Living in Alaska I get plenty of darkness in the winter and I travel where I get to use driving lights a lot. I have a pair of LightForce 240s on my Dodge and my wife has a pair of 30 + year old Cibie Super Oscars. I think that the LFs have more light output but the Cibies have better focused beam. Both are good lights and allow us to see moose alongside the road far enough ahead that we can get stopped if they step out in the road.

This Aussies sure seem to know their offroad stuff and they look high quality. I checked out the prices though and they are not cheap by any stretch.

I've gotta vote for the KC Daylighters too. I have a pair on the front of Fillmore and they have a great beam pattern and they have a 23 year warranty. I believe they're 130 watts and 285,000 candle power and they come with a cool lighted switch!! :waytogo: :pimp1:

Seriously though, I'd love to be able to afford some of the higher end lights that are out there, but the KC's, IMO, provide the biggest bang for the buck.

Looks like they have popped up a bit in price as well. They are not quite as expensive as the Lightforce ones, but getting close. I remember when those first came out back when I was in High School. Every Jeep worth its salt had those on them immediately...
