I just got to thinking. Has anyone seen this or done this to a k5? I saw a k10 short box 4x4 nicely lifted with the top lowered. A k5 might be kinda odd but has it been done? I would like to do something unique to my blazer when I finally get it fixed up.

i believe youre talking about the full convertable top, like on first generation blazers. because to my knowledge all K5 blazers have the removeable top at least from the cab back.

there is a tech article on this site, showing how to convert the late model "half convertables" to the "full convertable".

iirc you need the windsheild frame, doors, and the top from a first generation donor truck. then you need to do a bit of bodywork and welding to swap the windsheild frames, strengthen the cab by boxing part of the body. and youre done :)

I'm thinking he's more talking about chop top, like old hot rods where the actually shorten the pillars so that the roof is lowered. ?? I'd like to see it if anyones' done it, seems like an original idea. I'm sure someone has done it in 2wd.

I always considered a convertible a "drop top". But you could just say it the white, american way and call it a convertible. Anyway, I think what he's referring to is a "chop top" like stated above.

There was an 80s k10 around here that was lowered and had a chopped top. Super clean looking, he was selling it for like $8K.

If you can do it with motors and actuators , and use a custom top with folding bows and a boot , that would be bad ass .

Regular chop tops have been around for years out here , Ratical Top ( has new name now ) was the original located in Tempe AZ .

yea ive seen a older blazer up here with its roof chopped and at first it totally took me by surprise like it took an extra few seconds to realize it was a blazer lol looked pretty sweet but i cant imagine all that work for less interior room and super expensive custom cut glass lol

i thought you meant chop the top, drop it several inches, then reattach it so that you can have good ground clearance but not have a truck that's too tall to fit undert trees offroad or in the garage. these old blazers and trucks have a huge amount of headroom, so that option didn't sound ridiculous.

if you wanted to keep the hardtop option though.... youd have to channel the top its entire length..... now that would look weird.
