went yesterday and dropped my 400 off at a local guys shop. told him what i'll be using it for and it seems i'm gonna be sticking some serious money into this thing :doah:

$1000 down payment and that's just the start  I think i might have messed up when i said money is no object right now  :haha:

think i have a good starting block though. 400 with what he said the best heads ever made from the factory. 350 heads that is. Gonna have them shaved and holes drilled for the steam holes. They talked alot of tech that i know **** about but i'm guessing it'll be a stout motor when done.

The thing i did tell them is that i don't want this thing to fly apart cause it WILL be held at high RPMs every once in a while :doah:

You gonna punch it out to a 427 or something?
I think it's gonna be a 406?? If they can do it it'll be .40 over. It was already .30 when i got it and had no idea. :doah:

there was rust on the cylinders but they said it may be alright. If nothing else i may have to get it sleeved or just take the 350 4-bolt block i got out at my dads and make me a 383. Not really sure yet.

Thinking i'm just gonna buy a crank kit and a little longer rods with flat tops. They said something about 292 cam?? I know very little about cams so i'm guessing thats decent :dunno:

They kinda wanted to know what carb and intake i'm gonna run and i'm not sure. Maybe a single plane but not sure if a quadrajet would be enough  I would really rather run one of those myself

are u sure u said money is no object. To best of my recollection, everyone of our customers opening line is i dont want to spend alot. u would be a dream customer.

Heh..if money was no object, you could just order a 502 Merlin and be done with it. :D

Randy....what the hell are you thinking? WFO on the spending account huh? A dream for a machinist to hear!

So if your gonna WFO the throttle very often, better get a rev limiter. The dial up kind not the one that takes chips. What are the head #'s?

Build the biggest c.i. you can afford, you can always upgrade other parts later.

What are your plans for this thing?

Many things. Trails slightly, mud more than occasionally, and the river throughout summer. :D

gotta buy some lower gears and am actually lookin for some 1-ton running gears but will do with 3/4 ton for now. Just gotta kinda keep my foot in check ;)

I cant say I know a whole lot but 454's are beastly and being able to say you have a big block is worth it.

Well i just hear they weren't really made for high rpms for long periods of time. I may be way off base but i've always had good luck with small blocks

Plus i have 2 350's and a 400 but no big blocks so :p:

Just so I'm in the loop , what rig is this engine going in? :dunno:
