I want to drop my transfer case. But that got me wondering. Should I use grade 8 bolts or will just any old bolt work? The ones that are in it now are just long enough as it is.

Also. How much can I drop it? I have heard of 1 inch. how far could I drop it before other problems arise? I am thinking that 1 inch may not be enough. It is working as it is but it wears out the Ujoints FAST at the case. And there are a few small vibes at highway speed.

So what do you guys think i should do?

Use grade 8 bolts.

Dropping the t-case will make your rear driveshaft angle better and will make your front one worse.

If you decide to drop the t-case, get real spacers and don't just move the tiny stock spacers below the frame. You will crack the frame in that area.

You should probably be looking at a double cardan (CV) shaft in the rear.

factory used grade 8 bolts, so there must be a reason for it.

as for dropping the tcase, you have to watch for the distributor hitting the fire wall, i think 1" is the most you can go without some hammering

I dont see how it would make the front worse? And I am not too worried about the front right now. I plan on putting a 208 in it soon.
I want a cv shaft but I dont think there is a way to do it with my case. (fixed yolk where the ujoint has ubolt straps to the yolk.)

The drivetrain runs on a slight downhill (i.e. the motor is pointed up a litte, the t-case is pointed down a little). When you drop the t-case, the front output is lower put it is pointed up more, making the angle on that yoke worse.

To put a CV shaft in the rear you would need a new yoke on the rear.

I see what you mean. Thanks. As For the case, it will soon be switched out to a slipyolk np208. mmmm cv shafts.. I am just trying to make the angle a little better for the rear. I shouldnt be driving with the 203 for much longer.
