Drum shoe auto adjusting star mechanism

Hey guys,
I replaced the shoes on my rear drums last weekend and found that my rear right auto adjusting mechanism was frozen. I picked up a replacement kit from auto zone and installed the new mechanism. After readjusting the shoe tension from the access hole behind the drum, I realized that there might be different mechanisms for each side...

Long story short, I threw away the packaging for the kit and am not sure if I installed a left mechanism on the right side. Are there different auto adjusters for each side?

Also, how tight should the shoes be for adjustment? I started with no grab when my trucks is on blocks, but. It had little to no rear braking power until I tightened them up a bit.

they could be slightly different. because to adjust they need to spin in oposite directions. find the old frozen one and "unfreeze" it. i would be willing to bet if you clamp it in a vice and work it with some vice grips it will loosen up. or even leave it in some oil or some kind of lubricant over night. then clean the threads, hit it with anti-sieze and vuola!

as for adjusting: i tighten them until they stop turning because the shoes are pressed against the drum, then turn them back a few clicks. this might be overkill, but its worked well for me. there is also the rule of thumb, with the tire on, the shoes should keep the wheel from spinning twice. so if you jack it up and spin the tire, it should spin freely, but the slight tension from the shoes should stop it within 2 spins.

left and right . if in wrong will back off on ya. if you pull it apart there should be a L or R stamped in the ends of the threaded part.

and up till drag when turning tire off ground and back 1-2 clicks.
