On a rear axle, with drum brakes...when it's not attached to a vehicle or wheels, are the drums supposed to fall off? I was moving a axle today and one of the drums fell off??
thanks

EDIT:
I don't know much about brakes, sorry about the newbie question.

Could happen if the drums aren't pressed on with the studs through them. Usually semi-float axles, I had a rear dana 60(ff) that the drums could come off with out removing the hub/axle.

The wheels and lug nuts are what holds the drums on , considering I assume you are talking a 5 or 6 lug GM semi floater :d

Although some are supposed to have little shim clips that thread on and hold em , most don't make it back on after the first brake service :wink1:

if the shoes arent squeezing the drum ( you pushing the brakes) then yeah they should in most cases come off...
