how does swapping the hubs on a 14bff effect axles?

IE if one gets a DRW 14bff, and puts on the SRW hubs, can you keep the original axles, or do those need to be replaced as well. I havent heard anything to that effect, so im guessing the axle mounts dont change, simply the wheel mounting surface on the hub. am i on the right track here?

Axle shafts don't change.

The WMS moves OUT if you go DRW-> SRW, and IN for SRW->DRW. IIRC it's 2" each side, so 4" total WMS change.

Note that the brake mounts will also want to move unless you switch drums and shoes and even then I donno.

Also, note that the vast majority of DRW 14BFF's for 73-87 trucks are the C&C, i.e. narrow dually. In fact, they are the same width and axle shafts as the SRW axle, just with the DRW hubs. The regular duallies, pickups with the fat fenders, generally had a D70 rear in these years.

Towards the very end, and post-87, there are a limited number of wide dually 14BFF
's.
