rare for me, im only asking one question in this thread.

I never knew that there was a DRW D44 axle out there. I thought a D60 was my only option. I know there is alot of parts commonality, and interchangeability between the D44 and the GM 10 bolt front axles, specifically in the hub department.

question is, can i buy a set of DRW D44 front hubs, and bolt them onto my existing SRW 10bolt front axle, to get the 73" WMS i need to run my H1 rims?

If the axle the hubs come off of is disc brake it SHOULD be compatible. I think the is an uncharted question for everyone here really.

I would strongly recommend you find a d60 and thats coming from a d44 advocate. Only because h1's plus run flats, plus inserts, plus whodidlers, plus big tires is gonna be quite heavy on a d44.

no, i totally agree the D60 is what I want. But for right now the cost of a D60 > cost of D44 hubs. especially as I still get the employee discount from the chevy dealership. Basically this way i can spend money on the rear axle, getting the spring perches and shock mounts done at a shop, then throwing it in myself. And then put a little money into the front axle to get me by until i have the pennies to get the D60.....

although.... the cost of two DRW hubs and the ring and pinion to match a 1 ton rear.... and i might need a three series carrier....... crap..... im lookin at a D60 no matter how i slice it. ah well, at least i tried to save a buck ;)

EDIT: although.... i would only need to mess with the center section if i wanted to put it in 4 wheel drive, I could run the 8 lug DRW hubs on the 10 bolt as idler wheels with the truck in 2WD and the mismatched 3.08/4.10 gearing wouldnt matter

It may be sketchy but as long as you dont run 4wd on pavement nothing is really gonna happen.

I ran 3.42s/3.73s offroad for a while. Its not as much of a difference but alot of guys that mud race do it on purpose.

srw to drw width increase of +4" per side.

then with drw rims on it brings it back in to the fender. thats how you can run 7" backspace h1 rims on drw hubs. the +4 helps off set like this ( h1 rim b/s 7" - 4" drw extra = 3" backspace equivilent. )

Am I missing something here or is that just some wrong ass math lol :haha:

Some early 70 4x4 dab & chasis (pre 60 front) had a real DRW D44 front. I am not sure what those hubs look like but I do know where there is one locally.

Never seen those late model spacers before.
