man, i can't wait to get my membership back so i can search.

I'm looking for some info and can't search(for now), maybe someone will remember what i saw awhile back, i saw a dually rear end, w/ both tires tucked inside of a regular fleet side bed or a k5 tub, I'm sure the pu bed or k5 tub would need to be tubbed out like a pro-street car.

we are curious as to how they are making the dually rear end so narrow?:dunno:

I'm try'n to find this info for a friend, who said thats what he wanted, and wished gm would have made it! i told him i had seen it, and i would try to find out how its done, so I'm curious now?

also how much trouble is there w/clearance from the inside of tire to frame?, i assume the spring packs have to be in boarded. a link to build thread for said truck would be awesome, or just the info on how its done, would be appreciated. thanks for your time.

I can't find a specific build thread, but you could edit the title to get his attention and he should be able to provide more detail than you ever wanted.

hmmmm...interesting ..very technical, not sure i understand it all, any pics of this truck sittin on its tires? how much tire is it running? also, i noticed his spings weren't inboarded, i wonder if you did inboard the springs & tubbed the floor more, if you could fit the 38.5x11 boggers side by side in the rear

I know there is a better pic around here somewhere, it has changed a bit since that pic was taken. I do know that he mentioned that it was a C before, so it already had the narrow spring spacing to work with this setup.

I know that Kert at DIY4x was doing some pretty trick stuff with inboarding and using a C&C axle, but that isn't quite the same as Dremu's setup.

If you were to do this with a K5, you would have to do something pretty drastic as far as a rear seat, since 6-8" narrower means losing a seating position.

I also don't think you could put anything quite that wide on a side by side setup, but I could be wrong. The issue would be that the frame isn't going to give enough clearance to fit.

Here are a couple of pictures, and my apologies to dremu for stealing them so I could post them for you.

Hope they help with picturing the setup.

Wider dual tires

Has anyone tried to do the same setup with wider wheels and tire's,,,lets say 16.5x9.75 wheel and 12.5 tire???? That's what I'd like to do on mine...........................

I'm famous! :haha:

First up, thanks guys for the good words.

It is not, in fact, a C&C axle ... read the (admittedly long) description in the linked page. I couldn't have said it better myself (wait... :D ) The truck is still 2WD, but is a C30, i.e. one-ton, and that's where the narrow spring spacing comes from.

There are two issues with wider tires for duallies. The obvious one is tire clearance on the inside, so you either gotta inboard your springs and tub your wheel wells, or scoot the WMS out some.

The other is that you need deeper wheels or wheel spacers, so that the tires don't rub against each other (the other kind of tire rub =))

Check out any posts by "Eric M." here ... the guy is a dually NUT and has some sweet trucks...

IIRC he has custom wheels and all kinds of crazy stuff to make those work ... but they are purdy :deal:

There was a guy back in Ohio that had a dodge truck with dual 42in. swampers on the rear. The springs just sat on either side of the rear differential. He did it all himself except narrowing the rear axel. There was an article about him and his brother in a 4x4 mag, it was called sibling rivalry. His brother had a lifted suburban, and they always tried to out do each other. The dodge was red and black. They would always go to lima for the 4 wheel truck jamboree.

Well, when he asked the question, I remembered yours so I had to post it. And, like I said, I am sorry for swiping a couple of pics to show to him. I just knew you had a lot of info to give him about the setup.

Eh? 'Sall good. There's no reason to apologize ... that's *why* I take so many pix and post 'em up here, is to show others what I've done, share info, etc. (Well, that and I'm a pic whore =)) You note I'm linking to Eric's pix, but I'm sure he won't mind. He's proud of his duallies -- and for good reason. (The big tire thing isn't my bag for duallies, actually, but his trucks are clean regardless.)

I was laughing with my wife when I saw this thread; by the time I saw it, the questions had largely been answered with my pix and links to my post ... and I didn't have to do anything :D "My work here is done," I told her :haha:

Brown Dually!!!!!!

That truck is AWSOME!!!! Thats exactly what I want to do to mine.....!!:bow: Where can I gat more info on what wheels and spacers he used?????????:eek1::eek1::bow::D

Starting my rear build

Ok Yall I'm using this info to do my rear!!!

I've started collecting parts,, I'm going to use STOCK chevy dual wheels 16.5x8 ... Using disc brake conversion by Dremu?? I think......The one with the 03 rear deep dish rotor... I found rotors at napa, autozone, and checker all matching Part#'s and crossed reference to make sure....As for caliper clearence going to use spacer like used on the circle track link from earlier....I'm pretty sure BLACKBIRDS use's same rotor and spacer in their kit....

Going to use regular calipers ( non e-brake) for now...unless I can find some for free!!:) :)

And for caliper bracket's a race car part's manufacture has some weld on bracket's for chevy rotor's on 2" or 3" tube......Depends on size of rotor used ie: 11" or 13" etc....
Will keep all posted and pics to follow soon.......:D;)
