Ok, yet another question on this. although im slowly learning enough to get more specific.

I am currently trying to work a deal on a DRW D60/D70 combo out of a 1984 K30, both open differential (to put detroits in later) with 4.10 gears.

Ive been doing some looking online trying to find a picture, or part number, or blow by blow to convert the DRW setup to a SRW setup to get the front and rear axles to have the same WMS with no luck, and ran into something i hadnt thought about... a disk brake conversion.

Apparently to swap to disk brakes you need a 14 bolt that is pre 1985, does that apply to the D70 as well?

From what ive seen with the 14b DRW to SRW swap, its really just the hub that changes, and looks like a direct swap, that would use the same bearings and everything. although there was something about needing to remove the hub to get the drum off???? that kinda sucks. which makes me want to do the disk brake swap.

EDIT - heres the link to the information im citing, which may or may not be correct, i dunno.

meh, moot point, i think imma pass on the D70 and get a 14bff later on.

EDIT - good question though.

I'm using a D70HD on my project and will probably have a spacer/adaptor made to fit the D60 front caliper mounts onto the 70.

Whatever the space needs to be and will have the holes tapped to bolt the caliper mounts to the spacer and maybe Allen bolts to fasten to the 70's flange.
Then I can use a D60 rotor and caliper to have even larger brakes than the 3/4 tons.

rather bada$$. use of money signs was only slightly intended ;)

as for me, after a sort of unplanned $500 purchase tonight, (tickets to costa rica for my brothers wedding), i definatly wont be buying the D70HD. I think i like the idea of a 14bff anyway. pretty much same strength, easier to setup, three bearing pinion support, and guarantee'd parts commonality with SRW hubs and disk brake setup.

and with my weezy 6.2, and wee little 37's (planned), 3/4 ton brakes and 1 ton axles should be more than enough for me :)

That answers a question I have been pondering for a little while now, I have a rear D60 from a 2000 E350 van with factory disks (with e brake) that I got for cheap (thought it was a 70 at the time), I was figuring I'll run it til I brake it and then put in a D70 or 14 bolt and swap calipers and rotors over to new axle, but didnt know if they would fit. Apparently they will from what you say?
