I know it can be done I just can't find the info. What all does one have to do to make a one ton DRW to a SRW. Looking at being able to run the smooth style rims instead of the "truck" style.

Probaly never have to do it but still looking at the if I had to.
Thanks and it is Gregs fault I even think about this.

2wd = hub rotor swap .

4wd dana 60 = hub rotor swap .

rear depends on axle width .

if narrow c&c = add 2" spacers per side . takes 64" out to 68" just 1" over stock 67" width .

if wide pickup box with bubble fender flares not easy . almost better to sell that axle and swap reg width under it .

You never specified if you were talking about a front axle or rear. The front would require a little more than a rotor and spacers to convert.

The front would need a little machine work but nothing complicated. Just get a measurement of the inside wheel opening and get the hub diameter cut down to fit and get the rotor mounting flange (the fingers) cut flat to mount a wheel. Maybe an hour or two of machine work per hub. I have seen people weld a plate to the "fingers" to create a larger wheel mounting surface but if its a wheeler then its probably not necessary.

hub, rotor and studs.. just did it over the winter...

Easiest: Swap over bearing hubs on the front. Swap out correct axle for the rear.

Hardest: Machine the hubs as shown above. Install spacers (even though its easy to bolt them on, would you feel safer with them or the correct width rear axle?).

IF the truck already has a narrow 14FF, you can keep that and the front axle alone.

Simply swap out the bearing hubs as stated. Front completed there.

On the narrow 14FF, find some standard SRW 14FF bearing hubs from any 3/4 or 1 ton and swap those onto your rear. You will need to address the issue of the brake backing plate mounting flange which will need to be relocated outboard. I've never heard of anyone removing the flange and able to save or salvage it. My suggestion would be to get some weld on disc brake brackets and call it good.

That would be my suggestion of swapping over to SRW without swapping the axle housings out.

Well before I slip my mortal bonds I would like to build the Forest Service Truck. Seems that a lot of fire trucks are starting to show up and most are the DRW rears. So just trying to see what I would need to do. The converting to 4x4 is to much work but just printing the info to find and putting in a folder where I can find it later.

The guy sold the one in MO that was 4x4.
