I'm going to change out my oval big ass mufflers for a cylinder/round/straight type muffler.

Would like to hear what any of ya'all have used, what is good and what is junk :pimp:

Currently it's a dual exhaust set up connected to a 454 with Thorley Tri-Ys & H-Pipe w/ 2-1/2" 50 series FlowMasters.

The Cherry Bomb/Thrush/etc style glasspacks will vary widely on loudness largely based on what size/length you go with. I just put a pair of 3"x24" Summit Racing branded glasspacks on my K5 a couple days ago, and they're a bit on the loud side, with a bit of drone at certain RPMs while cruising. Though mine are also immediately behind the headers, mounted backwards (louvers facing back) right underneath the floorboards, and no additional exhaust pipe behind them. The 489 is also a good bit louder than a factory stock engine would be as well... I've put similar sized glasspacks on stock engines before, and they muffle almost to stock sound levels.

Before the mufflers, on just open headers -

However, they tend to be short lived, in that the packing can burn out pretty quick in them. Even after burnout, they'll still muffle the raspyness/cackle a bit, but the drone will get worse, especially when mounted immediately under you. In my case, I used them mainly just as a quick and cheap way of getting mufflers on it for the time being to keep the police at bay...once I finish out some other stuff, I'll likely replace them with a shorter, 3.5" diameter Dynomax Bullet.

Well... I guess primary reason is to make room for the WFO rear torque/track bar install I am doing. I could make the room I need with A BFH = BAM BAM BAM
BUT I am thinking I want a deeper/louder unmistakable big block sound.. these 50 series are very tame until WOT and that's just no fun! :burnout: Well the WOT is lot's of fun hahaha

Yeah I'm not sure I want "glass-packs" ...
I'm google then crap outa this:
I'm thinking 20" overall length max w/ 2-1/2" in/Out and no bigger around than 4" dia.
I don't mind spending a little more if the technology is there it back up the price ...

just know that most straight thru mufflers are not allowed off paved roads in forests in California. Prob the whole western half of the US. I know the forest service checks vehicles here in so cal.

I’d try the Thrush Welded. At half the price of the Flowmasters, they are reasonably priced. Once you’re done playing Bam Bam...

Oh my, had not heard of that? Even if there is a tail pipe leading all the way to the rear of the vehicle?
I have seen some cylinder type that have internal baffling, so I assume as long as it's not the cherry bomb/thrust type then all good..?
Would they still call this a "straight thru":

I would shop around though, should be able to find them for $49

that might be ok. The cherry bomb and glass packs are definitely a ticket

Another vote for the Thrush welded. 2.5" inlet/outlet. Sounds great at full boil, nice rumble at idle, and surprisingly drone free at part throttle cruise on the highway.

Cross the passenger side pipe under between the engine and trans, run the pair down the driver side and run the mufflers on that side by sitting them up on the long edge vertically. That would lead the passenger side free for the torque arm.
