I have a buddy with an 85 Silverado and it came with dual front shocks and the axles it had 3/4 ton axles but the axles got sold before he bought it and now it has a set of ten bolts. Well we dont know how the dual shocks would bolt up to the ten bolts it only looks like it has brackets for one shock. So could we use just one shock or would we have to make brackets for the dual shocks.

Also how do you get the ignition out of a steering column you don't have the key too.

Just use the one factory setup. Sounds like the axles came from a truck without the dual shock option.

Frankly the double shock option is pretty useless unless you've got snowplow hanging off the front. Guarantees a stiff, hard ride.

when i bought my truck from the PO it had duals in the front. it had dual mounts on the frame and on the axles it had the single mount.

on the side facing the pumpkin is where he had the second shock. he had a really long bolt with about 4 or 5 1/8in thick washers between the shocks.

id say i would snap pictures but i actually just took them all off today. when i put them back ill show ya if youd like. just dont know when

what he said its the same on mine its only the frame mount thats special

Pics aren't necessary he just dosent want to cough up the extra cash for two more shocks and wondered if it was necessary. Thanks

Now if anyone knows how to get the ignition switch out ive tried every chevy key I have and no go so any tips or tricks?

your either going to have to break the ignition to get it to turn or drill the tumblers to get it to turn, either way its not alot of fun and can get messy

Just get a Chilitons at AutoZone , it showes how to do the Ignition. Ive done it twice before many moons ago.

hummmm... I know I used a manual to do it with no key. I let a friend drive it and she lost the key...

the ignition thing i'd just suggest taking the steering wheel off and go that route.
It really doesn't take that long (provided you have acces to the right tool :whistle:and you can still turn it with a screwdriver w/o the ignition in.

If you're hell bent to do it without the work, a screwdriver and a BFH works well. Just bust the ignition. Done it once but i ended up makin a mess of everything. I could never steal cars for a living :doah:

yeah you need the steering wheel puller AND the thing to press the the round black part that locks the wheel. You have to press it down and get the DAMN snap ring off. Its a cheap tool that AutoZone has.

I'm not doubting that it is in a manual but just isn't in mine. I know that I would have to tear the steering wheel off as well as the horn and other stuff. All you have to do is take the screw out below the ignition and it pulls right out. Thanks
