Is anyone using dual idler gears in place of timing chain?Wilkinson diesel sells them, but they have straight teeth cut.I'm remembering that some manufacturer has helical cut gears. They would be quieter than straight cut gears.Just don't remember who makes them.

I'm too lazy to stick shift, that's why I prefer autotranny.

I have the DSG gears in my 6.2L, and they're straight cut. The noise is very subtle and only readable when standing in front of the grill.

Is there any advantage using gears over the chain on diesels?

They last longer and a chain can stretch or break which would change your timing.

According to <a target="_blank" href=http://www.usdieselparts.com/dualidler.htm>usdielparts.com</a>,dual idler gears improve startup, mileage, power, cleaner oil etc.
