hey guys, I want to convert my 77 K20 over to a dually. One of my buds just gave me (what I thought was) a dually 14 bolt, but when I measured to wms to wms, its only 63". After checking with the 14 bolt bible, it turns out I have a c&c dually 14 bolt. I was planning on doing a disc brake swap and running dual 37's. Is there any way that this axle is gonna work, or am I better off scrapping it and getting a dually 14?

The C&C spring mounting center to center is a couple inches narrower, but new perches could be welded on....not sure about shocks.

37's would require a wider wheel, and offset also...perhaps the C&C axle with the SRW hubs would work out better??? I think the C&C hubs are about 3.5" narrower when mounted than the SRW hubs are (on the same housing)

I don't know, Zimm. Currently, the spring perches are only 2" away from the backing plate.

measure your truck, if its a C&C or a 1ton housing, they have narrower spring perches than a 3/4 or 1/2 ton.

sell it and get an dana 70 dually out of a 70's to 80's gm square body...There much wider. Then re-weld the perches to match what your frame is, iirc 42.5 instead of 40.5 on the 70.

you need a dana 70 rear for our truck that was in the drw fleetside box setups with wide fenders on outside of box.

and yes custom wheels and special spacers to keep sidewalls from touching and also center the outer rim .

LOTS of work to correctly run big tires on drw.

or if lucky 14ff drw wide from 88-up trucks if you can find one.

and c&c axle same width as srw just deeper spaced in backing plate flange welded to axle for deeper drums to clear drw setup and drw hubs also.

go rear a bit here http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/14b_bible/index.html for 14ff info

thanks for all the replies guys! Sweetk30, those links were very informative, looks like I'll be looking for a 70 HD dually.

so you know when looking,

the dually Dana 70HD has bigger tubes and requires the 4 inch lower spring plates. so when looking for one try and get the correct lower plates.

are you from ct? if so i have a d70 out of a dodge that's sitting in my yard that i want gone. they're going on CL for $2-300 around my area but i would take $100 for mine. it has 4.56 gears.

ya, I live next to foxwoods. I checked craigslist, you're right. The cheapest one I found was $350 and it was rusted completely. I'm looking to get one with 4:10s already to match my 60 front. Thanks for the offer tho.
