okay so the other day i bought a dana 60 out of a '90 crewcab dually which was hardly ever used. the truck was used to haul strawberries from the fields in the next town over. took the cover off everything looked brand new.

trouble is, its from a dually.

are the hubs the only things that need to be changed? i've heard mixed things from different people. some people say the rotors need to be changed as well and some say they dont.

so whats the low down? i want to hear from someone who has done this before and knows first hand.

thanks

I converted mine from a dually. New hubs and new wheels studs but I'm 99% sure I didn't have to change rotors.

Checker shows 2 different rotors though

Just find a 14B FF. They are dirt cheap, stronger, and you wont have to mess with converting anything. Plus a detroit is only like $400 new for a 14B FF.

yeah its a front. i have a 14b sf in the back. its staying there until i can find a good ff. i'm going to put the d 60 in, and just drive it like that around the block or so (it came with tires) and then see if my rims will fit on there. if they dont, then we all know the answer. but by H1 rims do you mean the really old school ones like i have sitting in my backyard like the pictures i attatched? if so i have 4 of them and the spare tire for my truck is also mounted on those rims. i know the spacing isnt standard becase when i bolt on the spare, the tire sticks out an inch or so more than the regular rims and they rub a lot more

I was thinking like this, as long as it has tons of back spacing...
hmmwv_assembled_fs.jpg

But I could be way off base on this whole idea...

Stock h1 beadlocks work well with DRW 60's they have 7" of backspacing so it is like running a wheel with about 3" of backspacing on a SRW 60. They are usually pretty cheep too. This is what mine looks like with a DRW 60 and 1.5" spacers on the 14 bolt with 12 bolt h1's. If you dont want to run spacers you can also use a dana 70 rear with 14 bolt hubs.

I converted my dually D60 front to SRW using hubs I got from GMPartsDirect. The hubs had new rotors, studs, and races installed. I know I paid less than 400 bucks shipped, but can't remember the exact amount... Seems like it was around $340 or so...

thanks for the help guys, im gonna search around the site and see what i can dig up. im gonna throw them on there and see if it works or not if it doesn't i might just get new hubs/rotors or see if my old rims work

i just did the exact same thing, search for the gmpartsdirect.com part number, it cost 318dollars shipped to my door, that was for 2 new rotors with races and studs pressed onto the new single wheel hubs. its a great deal!

looks like your rear wheels are narrower than your front wheels in this pic, are they still narrower in the back even with the wheel spacers?

Yeah they are tucked in a little more then the front, the DRW 60s are 77.5" wms-wms and a 14 bolt is 67.5" wms to wms plus 1.5" spacer on both sides gets you 71.5"

i have the same dilema, i have a drw d60 waiting to be installed, but i haven't decided if i want to use h1 rims or just convert the d60 to srw hubs. question is, if i use the d70 rear with 14bff hubs, will the front and rear wms be identical, or will the rear end still be narrower?

like i said... im just gonna throw the d60 on there with the dually tires that are on there right now and then see if my rims will fit. if they don't ill go from there i might run the H1 combo or see if my solid steel hummer rims will work...

i'll post updates. hopefully tomorrow i'll be getting the d60 out of the back of my tow rig and out to the burb. i'm picking up some 8'' front lift springs and while im at it im gonna do crossover so i'm looking at a good weekend project.

ill post pics for sure. wish me luck!

hijack on-

if you use 14 bolt hubs on a dana 70 dually rear, do you still use the dana 70 drums?

If you swap hubs on the 70hd you must run disc. The stock drums will no longer work, nor will the ones from the 14 bolt.
