Hey, thought I see what you all think.

Since most of us are truck guys also and have tons of experience with trucks, towing, axles, cruising, family hauling ect, what do you prefer and why. DRW or SRW trucks.
2 or 4 wheel drive, not to worried about

Thoughts?

Guess I should've added, I'm thinking about fullsize, 3/4 and 1ton trucks.
Crews, extra cabs, standard cabs all included.

Post up pictures too if you have something cool to share.

depends on intended use but I think the SRW crew cab short box done on a square body is the coolest truck ever thought up.

Without intended use, I can't give an opinion, but personnally My needs would be served best by a dually narrow truck, preferably 4wd so that is what I am going for.
I intend to tow 10k-15k so the dually is warranted.

personaly im a big fan of crew cab duallys with 10 lug conversions and high load range tractor trailer tires, for looks anyway as far as usefulness it depends on your reasons.

I prefer a single wheel crew cab 4x4 as it can haul as much weight as I am legally allowed to without a commercial driver's license (10k lbs with a class C in CA) and it is easier to drive in heavy traffic on so-cal freeways than it's dually brother. The crew cab is usefull when you need to tow your buddies home, or take the family somewhere (like camping.) I prefer 4x4 because there are plenty of times when I have needed the tow rig to drag the trail rig or dirtbikes off of the trail. It's nice to not be limited with the 2wd. As far as bed length goes, If I wasn't so into dirtbikes I would prefer the shortbed, but I HATE having to leave the tailgate down whenever I load up the bikes or need to haul a load. I currently drive a crew cab short bed 4x4 but I'm pretty sure that I will get a long bed on the next go round, it is already as long as a school bus, what's another 2'?

All of that said, if I could afford it, I would choose an E350 van with a powerstroke and a 4x4 conversion over any light duty (10k gvw or less) truck. I can seat as many as 15 people, or 5 people with 3 dirtbikes inside of it and still haul as much on the hitch as a 1 ton truck. I have seen a few conversions with a partition wall behind the second row of seats so you can have your comfy cab interior and a linex'd truck like back end, kinda like a permanent camper shell but with more headroom. It can also be registered as a passenger vehicle instead of a commercial vehicle like a pickup requires which saves big $$$ (your states laws may vary.)

Yeah agree about the crews for hauling people. Love CCs but the bad thing is I can't haul.my whole family is either of my CCs.
As a kid we had a 4x4 chevy van and we loved it. I wish I could find a full.size van again that could do what I needed

My CCSB SRW D-Max 4X4, was great for hauling the family and towing. It depends on what you plan on towing and how often. Here you need commercial plates if you have a dualie, which opems up the poss of being stopped by the DOT, and more $$ for yearly registration fees. Pass plates for SRW, and less $$ at the tolls, and cheaper to register. I`m looking into a late 80`s CC LB SRW 4X4, as I think this should suit my current needs fairly well.

Well if you wait long enough, there ight ne one ready for you.
I am working on converting my 97.
The detail I am hung up on is wether I want to make it IFS or SAS.

It's funny you say that about the van. I've been trying to picture a cool looking one with a solid axle, but some of the chevy vans are so fugly

Here is an alternative to a van for me
It's funny but I am building just that except with a short bed.
It's along term project but I have all the compnents now from parting a few crew cabs, now it's about the time, when I have time I will work on it.

Ice, are you going dually with it?

This is doable for me too, I all the parts too.

I started this thread cuz I'm contemplating converting my 86 k30 SRW to a dually.

And a have another cab I could cut the back off of, and another

1 ton frame, due to its size

Well with that much weight plus the fact I might tow with it, yes I am going dually, but narrow.

i have an '05 dodge 2500 quad cab, short bed, cummins 4x4. i think it's the perfect all around truck. it's not too big for a DD and it's strong enough to tow anything i would need ( hauling my blazer or occasionally my friend's 25' boat).

if i towed more often or bigger trailers, the longbed dually would definitely be a better choice.

Once I get the Maiden done, I will be looking for a CCdually, big block powered to pull 10K+. I loved my burb for the capacity of people it could haul, and I loved my dually vortec 454 for what it could tow. So the best of both for me would be this:

With a Vortec 454, and a 4L80E.

always been a fan of Dually trucks
but you can't throw them through a car wash and it's tons harder to drive through the city with one. But I like the look. Something about a CCLB that looks too skinny without some beef in the back
