Saw this today running around town, looked to be an 83-84 (judging by the grill) it was 2wd, prolly 454, and not one tire matched another.:doah:

I've seen a dually Sub locally (its gone now) that ran the narrow 14FF. This put both tires under the fenders WITHOUT the wide fiberglass fenders shown in this pic. Looked pretty good, too.

Does anybody know if GM actually built these? Was it special order? I have seen a couple over the past 8 months on craigslist (been looking that long for a CLEAN suburban, all are rusted or asking way more than what I wanna pay) One guy said GM didnt build this set up so he built his own, another guy said they were built by GM but special order and are rare. I was just wondering cause they are kinda cool. Oh and both of the ones I seen were asking over $10k.

How much you willing to pay and how far you willing to travel? There is a pretty clean 86 1/2ton Suburban by me.Says it has only 49K on it.Basic model. With a plow.I have no idea how it runs.

GM never built suburbans as duallys. A company called arrowcraft use to make conversion kits to make a SRW a DRW. The made a special fender because a normal fender extension for a dually won't fit because of the suburban gas door. IIRC you can't just "bolt" a narrow 14FF in w/o changing the rear spring hangars to C/K30 style.

seen lots of these around me
never a 4x4 though
some REALLY clean ones that are dropped about 5" or so
a welder guy I use for work used to have a blue one slightly dropped, looked sweet

I've seen them over the years with and without flares. The most recent one local to me has a narrow rear and no fender flares. Every time I see it I don't have an opp to snag a pic.

I've seen several over the years. Not aware of them ever coming from a GM factory that way, but also not 100% they didn't. My guess would be that some were sold as new vehicles from a dealer but they went to a conversion company first to be converted to a dually. Back in the '80's and early 90's you always saw dually Suburbans at the race track as they were fairly popular tow rigs.

They two I have seen are 4x4. Depends on price and condition as to how far I would drive and if I could drive it home. Im not looking for a dually suburban just a srw in 1/2 or 3/4 ton 4x4. All of the ones I'm finding are around 3k and are rust buckets with 200k+ miles.

There ate a ton of descent ones in Oregon for $3000. As usual. The 70s trucks are getting rusty, but the 80s ones are still nice

This one is an '86 1/2ton 4x4.Looks to be clean and straight. But I haven't stopped to look up close.I did notice the headliner in the back hanging. If you need I could check it out closer. It's at the end of my street.

My uncle used to have one of those back in the late 80s, was pretty nice for towing with his family. It was custom, GM did not make them.

Saw it again, driving this time. I failed to notice the 6.2litre diesel emblem had come off on the barn door.

Gonna bump this back up...

So I was at a bar last night playing some pool. Ran into a guy I went to school with, couple years older but we took the same auto shop which is why I even remember him. Turns out that narrow dually burb I've been seeing around was his.

He said the burb body is on a 2wd P30 chassis (not sure exactly what that is other than a standard cab n chassis?) and was a direct bolt on. The narrow dually rear fits under with no mods. It was dark so I couldn't get pics.

Says he has all the stuff to make it 4wd and is gonna start that soon.

A P-30 would be a Step-Van (Frito-Lay or bread truck!)....I've seen some neat old Cabover trucks with the pug nose put on P-30 chassis....the later ones have 4 wheel disc brakes ,and often had 454's ,6.2 diesels or even a Cummins 4bt in them...their straight frames make swapping them to other bodies easier ...
