hey Ive been building a dually for a bit now,and this week, after lots of thin king Ive decided to go a lil different route.:eek1:
Anyhow,I dont think Im going to run a dually rear, its just too wide for round here, plus the length of the burb,it just wont be ideal.
Ive seen some dually trucks with all 4 rear tires almost tucked under the boxsides.Does anyone know of or run this set-up?Where do I source the rear end from ,does it need any mods or is it a bolt in and how close does it get the inside tires to the leafsprings?

Thanks for any info!:D

LOL, I'm famous ;)

It is doable; be a bit different on a Burb 'cuz you have the spare tire well in the back, but basically the same idea.

The amount of wheel-well widening depends on tire size and your axle/hub/brake flange choice. I ended up using a normal SRW 14BFF with normal SRW hubs, and welded on discs. If you're doing drums and/or are already set up, you'd have to change widths a bit... but, basically you just tub the wheel wells in, for the back, and up front obviously switch to the DRW fronts or you have two different wheels, hard to carry spares ;)

I got a second set of wheel wells at the PickNPull, and cut them lengthwise at a precise point :wink1: and welded the two halves together to create a wheel well that is 3" or whatever I figured wider than stock. Then cut out the old edge of the bed that meets the wheel well, remove 3", and weld it back in. I hate sheetmetal welding, but with suitable seamsealer and bedliner it's not immediately ugly :deal:

That should getcha started, anyway, yeah?

Thanks for the pics and help dremu..Im somewhat confused tho,LOL,Is your a cab n chassis axle or just a SRW axle that was stock in that truck? If its just a stock SRW,no problem Ive got 2 spares sitting at work.
Sheetmetal wont be a problem,at this point Im prettywell decided on hackin everything off about 4" behind the rear doors and flatbeding it and going for a few more inches wheelbase with 63" springs.Im also thinkin on moving the leafs under the frame as opposed to on hangers beside the frame for a lil more flex and tire clearance.

C&C 14BFF's are, in fact, the same as an SRW 14BFF.

Well, except they have dually hubs, which move the WMS in 2" on each side, AND the brake flanges are in further for the dually drums.

I was gonna use the dually hubs, but the tires got REALLY close to the frame (235/85-16's, I think 215/85's woulda fit okay) so I used the SRW hubs. So yeah, my axle is the stock one ... except I had to remove the brake flanges, and as part of my disc conversion I ended up welding on brackets.

Now that disc kits are available for the DRW, you could do that, or just cut off and replace the brake flanges for drums. The dually drums are waaaay deeper than SRW, have to be to fit those crazy deep wheels on.

Make sense?

If you're gonna inboard the springs, you can go as narrow as you want. Note that the stock DRW wheels will only go to about a 235/85 tire without rubbing, so you start talking about spacers or custom wheels at some point. And at that point you are in what's called Mannonland, named after another member here...

sweet, thanks,I think Ive got it all now...Might try my ff14 van rear,I think it would be perfect width to run 38x11 boggers or 9-16 michelins or 11-16 michelins if I ever find a set.Unfortunately,I only have a 2500,so until I find a good deal on a 60,or find a 60 at all for that matter,Ill be running the 44 up front.Im going to keep a SRW front axle once I find a 60,Ill just carry a front spare, and I plan on running 10" wide rims or so up front with 15"ish wide tires, then the skinnies out back.Im not sure drums or discs yet either,Im not so great with mechanical safety stuff like that so Id need a complete kit including park brake rather than piecing something together.I was maybe thinkin those q78-16 or whatever there called swampers(the skinny 36s) and 36x14.5s up front.Any idea where to source wide dually wheels??stockton??
