Ok. I caught a lot of crap about my unistrut skid plates (and well deserved). So before I add another construction-rated product to my rig, I wanted to ask for some opinions. I wanted a better wiring loom that keeps the wires well-protected and allows me to feed the wires into tight spots or through the firewall without a dumb grommet.

Here's the plan: flexible PVC conduit (no metal sheathing, basically just a PVC hose), PVC connector on the side of the firewall or floor, then the metal nipple on the inside-cab to sandwich the two parts between the sheet metal hole. This will be "T"ed and strategically ran into various locations along the frame rail (rear speakers, rear power outlets, rear lights, etc). I plan on adding various accessories inside throughout the years and using this as the ultimate camping rig. No carpet, so I have nothing to hide the wires.

Thoughts?

KIMG0664.jpg kinda hard to see but the grey thing with writing on it is what u are talking about using I think. The company that builds our utility trucks uses it to run the 120 wiring for the outlets from the inverter on our trucks.

Having a bunch of holes through the floor is generally not recommended, although on an older vehicle it may already be the case. What is the temperature rating of the PVC? How do you keep the tubing from accumulating water? It kind of makes sense to me for things that run the whole length of the vehicle, like taillights and tailgate wiring, but you have to pretty much redo all the wiring to accomplish it. This is where split loom looks so easy.

@Truckman4life - thank you for the pictures. I don't think that looks too bad.

@Blue85 - I was actually hoping to minimize the amount of holes in the floor using this technique. I don't know the temp rating, but where I plan on running it, it shouldn't be a concern. I haven't figured out a drain, I figured a good air hose would work for any accumulated water. I'm really starting to lean towards a split loom as there's really not a whole ton of wires I'm going to run. I just wanted an easier way of running the wires (I HATE trying to get wires through the firewall, haha).

I don't have a picture, but what I did was enlarge the grommet for the heater wires. I ended up running every single EFI wire and then some through that grommet, and it's still got a lot of grommet left lol. Literally 20+ wires.

I'd stick with split loom, and get a bunch of small black zip ties. Zip tie it every 6" or so, which also makes handy locations for the odd wire to poke out to wherever it needs to go. The split loom is relatively cheap, but I'd get it from a reputable vendor vs. the cheapest you can find, I assume/hope some is better than others.
