hey all. i was just cleaning up my blazer an i was looking at the tail pipe thinking about cutting it off and dumping it before the axle. most of the time when i am in mud or off road all it dose is collect all he mud on my exhaust tip. would there be any negative effects with heat near the tank or axle? i know there might be some more exhaust fumes that would enter the cab but i dont think i would be too bad right? any input would be appreciated.

do it.... Both my trucks have turn downs (or 'dumps') out of the muffler, before the axle. No tips to keep clean or get bashed up, and it sounds a bit better - sound reverberates off the ground.

I'll get pics in the morning, show you how it's done.

i did it and i love it. my tips got hung on all sorts of crap and i kept breaking the hangers and bending the tubes. they also looked kinda ghey IMO. sounds better to me as well.

does it smell inside the truck? blazer? ive entertained the idea of dumping my exhaust like this but didnt want the exhaust coming back in

Its easy to run the exhaust and sounds good too. I've got that very exact setup on my K25. Only problem is I'm pretty sure thats its illegal to have your exhaust exit under the passenger compartment. Mine ends under the box so its no problem, but if you get pulled over, or have to do safety inspections, it may be a hassle for you.

good pint.

I have mine dumped, and love it. Actually noticed less exhaust fumes in the K5, compared to my burb that had tailpipes behind the tires. Also if you don't do you own exhaust, getting the shop to make, or sell you the "over the axle" pipes is where most of your money goes.

Every vehicle I've had that dumped the exhaust underneath developed rust in the floor pan. I realize it's difficult to say whether it would have rusted as quickly if the exhaust had extended out from under the body, but my feeling is it would not have.

mine looks exactly like obijuans, and it's good but with the diesel I get some soot build up , nothing major though

Depends on how the law is written. I believe in Iowa, it states exhaust must extend past the rearmost opening passenger window. I don't think that qualifies the rear window on a blazer since it is technically in a cargo area.

My blazer dumps in front of the rear tires.

Crew cab is not finished but stops under the bed maybe 2 feet before the axle.

Wifes Burb dumps out the side before the rear tires. Mine has turndowns about a foot before the rear axle, but under the body. I've already got rust so who cares and I havent noticed any buildup inside the cab.
