So i will be having the frame and underbody blasted soon (not frame off ) and will need to paint various other stuff as well diy shackle flip , inboard shock mounts ect ect .. after reading countless posts and what not im pretty sure i want to shoot everything with the dupont imron paint however where can i get this stuff? Searching online has brought up nothing.. Auto body shop? If anyone knows where to get it throw up a link please ..

Then once the frame is blasted im sure the metal will still have tiny pinholes with rust and what not so of course without a chemical bath the frame cant be 100% rust free.. will a typical primer be enough to stop tiny rust like this or would i need to account for this with a rust specific primer? Any tips appreciated thanks

Sorry, missed this one... thanks Pam.. :D

generally, most autobody supply stores carry Dupont, or at least 75% percent of em... I would just go thu your local yellow pages under "autobody supply" and make some calls to see who carries Dupont...

usually, any steel that is visable, that is correctly blasted will be raw steel, ready for primer, with maybe a quickie sand before to knock the edge down..

for raw steel you can't beat a zinc wash prior to a regular primer for proper adhesion.. .. you could just get a couple rattle cans, or go for a gun-sprayed 2 part zinc wash from any of the major manufacturers... just a couple pisscoats is all ya need...

just about my entire truck is done in Imron...

heck, it even makes for one of the best engine paints too if ya wanted... done that plenty of times...

i hope i got all the right stuff but i wound up grabbin a gallon of ppg deltron non sand epoxy primer ($250 a gallon :O) which gives me 1.5 galon sprayable 2 qts of deltron gloss black acrylic urethane single stage for the frame and suspension.

Ryoken did you ever spray your hard top?

Im trying to research the preping of the fiberglass and what not

I got two test pints (gun metal color) ppg acrylic urethane single stage to try out on the blazer .. i think ill shoot both fenders to gompare the 2 different gunmetal colors as im going to be stripping the paint off the body anyway.. it will gimme some practice and ill get to see the color on the truck.

The paint guy said after sand blast wipe with the ppg degreaser cleaner then wipe no lint dry rag and shoot.

Do you have a link to the zinc wash your talkin bout? Im probably a few weeks out from shooting so im furiously doin the research thing on the net but of course so many different oppinions about everything!

The base coat clear coat didnt really appeal to me when i think of future touch ups from trail abuse.

Shot the test paint on today and stared at the two colors for what seemed an eternity!!! Im still un decided the rear fender looks like it has ever so slight of a green hue to it which im not a fan of... i think im gonna take the polisher to it tuesday then hit it up with some zaino and take some better pics.
