Duramax??? Power stroke??? or Chevy 6.0???

[Edit] In reference to the "1500 ft/lbs", for a comparable investment the DMax would make at least 1000+ ft/lbs across a broader range. I'll take 1000+ ft/lbs from 1800-3600 or so over 1500 ft/lbs from (guessing) 1400-1800 any day for normal light truck tow duties (and daily driver).

I am pretty sure you are way off on your figures here, but until I research it more I really can not dispute your claims.

You may be right (about the numbers) but everything I've heard (never owned one) indicates that the CTD torque curve is tall and narrow with steep sides making gear selection very sensitive and important. And I do recall people (neighbor was one) talking about "a 400 rpm sweet spot" where it made all it's power and fell flat if you got out of the "sweet spot". So the numbers I stated for the CTD, as I posted, were just guess based on these inputs. The info on the DMax should be accurate though, unless I've gotten more senile than I think, but then, how would I know? /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I'm with baddog on the "hot rodding" around....I want a diesel that gets up to speed in a hurry, not a dog because dogs are no fun to drive. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

We are all foregetting something!......... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The cummins by far sounds the best. Esepcially the old ones without that multiple injection at idle doobober. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

My appologies, I did have the numbers off, but not by much.

In the posts I could find, Kennedy ran 473/912 on the VA 200. I still think I saw a dyno report that had something like 492 or so for that box, but can't find it now.

Also, most of the Hot Juice and "comp" boxes were turning in around 425/764 hp w/o a stack, standard "Juice" with TTS stack yielded 487.8 / 873.5.

And these numbers all vary +/- 10 or so by truck with identical mods.

Here are some posts I found that might be interesting... too lazy to do more digging, but you can find a lot more by searching.

Dyno Day

Kennedy's initial test of the VA 200+.

Related post with some info.

AHA, found it (or at least a reference to it) in Kennedy's sig! Looks like the final numbers were 505/970 after tweaking the box and without drugs, 600+/1100+ with drugs!

hijack??? some good info here, thanks for all the replies. I'm still shopping though, I'll let ya'll know what I end up doing.

Only members have access to the links you gave me. Whats with the 600+ and 1100+ figures, doesnt he know exact numbers? Seems kinda fishy. Does he have graphs from the dyno? I have seen some graphs on the TDR and I do not remember seeing a sharp dropoff in torque until governor cut off.

I also just saw a few posts where a Cummins 600 was getting over 1000 ft lbs on just a box, dont remember the brand. Of course, that was with "only" 450 hp, so the Dmax is better in that regard, thus the success in drag racing. Of course, I am not really into these electronic engines, its just too easy for the average Joe to plug in a box and put exhaust on, no real work involved nor knowledge of diesel engines and what makes them tick. For my money, I will take a 97 12 valve and put a couple grand into it and waste all the electronic engines from the Big Three. OK, enough hijacking of this post, I have been doing that too much lately /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Wow, sorry, didn't realize how far off we went... End hijack...

I went with the 6.0l. For initial price reasons and for the fact that I dont tow all that often. Have to keep that in mind also. The 6.0l will handle my Blazer with a 2500lb trailer without any problems.

I just couldnt justify $5k more at this time in life.
