I had really wanted to just build my tow rig of choice, but the reality is that it is hot and I am not in the mood for a huge project at the moment with so many all ready on my plate.

My plan was to buy a 01 or 02 gas 2500hd 2wd, then buy a complete 24 valve 4x4 cummins truck and and have a emissions legal cummins swap bad ass solid axle truck.. add on a 06 front clip, a 4 link air bag set up in the rear and I would have my dream truck.. I figure it will cost me an easy 10k if I did it with some deals.

But now I see d-max trucks coming around for just a couple grand over or the same as what my 06 gas truck would sell for.

These are not power window or loaded trucks though.. but often I find myself not caring or wanting them in my current truck.

this one is a bit more but lower miles and loaded and the true 4 door i want

14,500

Hello,
I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with a
-Duramax Diesel engine.
-Crew cab 4 door
-short bed with bed liner
-It comes with a complete tow package,
- Power everything inside,
-bucket seats with the option of a full seat in the front.
-It has 137K miles,
-the truck is in perfect condition

I really don't want to get rid of the truck to be honest but i cant afford the monthly payments, So all am asking for is amount still owed which is 14500 not a penny more( the Kelly blue book price on the truck in the condition its in is 20,000). I cant keep the truck anyways so my thought is that i would rather have someone buy it off for a really cheap price than to let the bank take it back.

My concerns with the d-max is the injector issues and repair cost. I really want some more power in the hills as well as mpg.. if I can do it and not have to build the truck..all the better:D

Right now I have a 6.0 truck and a 4l80..pretty cheap to fix should a problem arise and I have two other vehicles with the same motor.

Are my concerns valid or?????

Truck 2 is the better of the 3. LLY(05) has external injectors (easier to work on), more power, more bugs worked out over the LB7 (01-04 1/2). Had great luck with mine and would highly recommend the 05:wink1:

I like to hear that, since mine is an '05 LLY.:D

Buy a 05 or newer they have there problems too, like over heating and injector harness ,but easy fixes. That said I got a 02 and love it.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 02's also.... as a matter of fact I love 'em all except the LMMs

I did`nt get you wrong ,I`d own any year, but the injectors are a concern. That is why I would suggest a lly. I bought mine new and it has been mostly trouble free. (228000kilometers) When my injectors go i`ll fix it myself.

Also like the Duramaxs cuz of being able to do this

My two cents buy what you want don't say you can live with it I did that and now wish I didn't.

Don't buy white it may have a chance of not getting torn up

I have had five Duramaxs in the last 10 years (01, 02, 03, 04, and 06) and I loved every one of them. The only problem I had was with my 01 with erratic idle but reprogramming it solved it. My favorite is my 06 LBZ with the 6 speed allison. I would stay with 05 (LLY) - 07 Classic (LBZ). Depending on what you are doing with the truck...towing, drag racing, and etc. The Fuel managment systme on the 05's and older are alot easier to modify becasue they are GM built (Delphi) systems, which gives you more options to modifiy ECM with advanced programming (EFI Live). Also, with the older Delphi systems you can store multiple programs on the same ECM and adjust with a rotary switch. The 06 and newer sytems use Bosch fuel managment systems. My 06' is more of a daily driver and my tow vehicle and I would trade the 6 speed allision for anything. Even with 37" tires and a 80 hp (EFI Live) tune I can get 19 mpg - 14 towing. Like the guys said above, they are all good trucks and have their pros and cons. I would try and find one that is a one time owner (preferably and older retiree). Best of luck.:wink1:

I personally like the early ones {01-04} even though they can have injector issues. I have 2 of them now. I've worked on an 05 some and with all the EGR crap it's a pain. Mine haven't been trouble free but I abuse them and neither run stock power levels :D.
