Duramax Suburban - IFS Rebuild

Yoke is on with some giant specialty nut. And doesn't that mean I have to reset pinion bearing preload?

They are ridiculously hard to get the yoke off...at least it was on my 02 Duramax. I had to heat and struggle with it for hours, and now it has a drone at 100klms an hour. I re and re just like the book said but would just get a conversion joint if it was me. :dunno:

BTW does yours have the balancer on the yoke...probably not, I think that is just a Duramax truck deal. But when I replaced my yoke I got one without the balancer because I was being cheep. :doah: That could be my drone!?

Mine is a dmax rear end. Yes, its got the balancer. I'm on board with the conversion joint. Removing the yoke sounds like a pain.

Ok cool! Easy way out is a good thing!

Try to get a spicer if they make it for that. The percsion joints suck IMO.

Well, been fighting parts for the last few days. The spicer 1480 strap kit doesn't fit the GM yoke. And GM has discontinued the part. I got a set of Dorman ones that were close enough to pull it out of the garage and idle down the street, but will replace them with the proper ones before i drive it anywhere.

Trans seems to shift fine, so speed sensors may have allowed me to dodge a bullet there.

Excited to have a properly adjusted ebrake, as well as new everything in the rear. Pretty confident that it all went back together correctly this time, but time will tell.

Truck was down for 6 weeks. Which was about 5.5 weeks too long!

In the end, I really pounded the hubs on to set the bearings/seals all the way back. I don't think i did this the first time, and i'm guessing that was my cause of failure.

Needs tires pretty bad now, but really torn on what wheels to run. I like stock, and cheap. Really like the PYO alcoa's that i have, but at only 6.5" wide, are a bit narrow for 285's. Will probably run those though. Bought a set of newer 17's, but not really the ones i like.

Really want to find a set of H2's and run the stock chevy center caps. Too bad they are so hard to find now. We'll see what i find, and what funds i have.

Currently deciding where I should hide a bottle of whiskey and a crisp $100 bill for the inspector to "discover".......:deal::bow:

I may not sleep tonight.

Trying to decide if I'm more or less nervous for this than I was to propose to my GF a few months ago. Its close.....

Your good.. the best thing is you got nothing to hide and believing that will get you a long way.

Very bad Idea. If it has all the required Calif smog as pertaining to the donor it should be all Roses.

If its an lb7 they never came with any emissions.

Its an LBZ. No DPF or associated crap, but i'm sure there are other things they check for on "emissions equipment".

Mostly nervous because the whole ref process, smog requirements, etc are so vague, and really end up being a judgement call by the inspector.

Mostly it would be intake, exhaust mods if there is any emissions crap there and Evap.. pcv egr etc.. that tag on your core support is what drives them because that's the indicator of what equipment it should have. Also no check engine light..
